The supplier shall be required to report resuliy of the macroeteh and micro-nelsion rating, tests detailed below. Quality tests shown in 72-744 are based upon procedures established in Test Methods E 72 Sampling—Samples taken in accordance with the fol lowing paragraphs shall be obtained from 4 by 4 in, (100 by 100 mm} rolled billets or forged sections, Tests may be made con smaller or larger sections by agreement between man turer and purchaser. A minimum 3 to 1 reduction of rolled bills or forged sections is required for stand cas products 7.2.1 For top poured products, & minimum of six samples representing the top and bottom ofthe fist, middle, and last, ‘sable ingots shall be examined 7.22 For bottom poured products, & minimum of six Sarnples shall be examined and they shall represent he top and bottom of three ingots. One ingot shall be taken at random from the frst usable plate poured, one ingot, at random, from the usable plate poured nearest tothe middle ofthe heat, and ome ingot, a random. from the lst usable plate poured. When two usable plates constitute a heat, two of the sample ingots shall he selected from the second usable plate poured. Where a Single usable plate consitaes a heat, any thee random ingot may he selected. Other methods of sampling shall be as agreed upon between manufacturer and prchiser 7.2.3 For srind est products, minimum of six samples representing the fist, middle, and lst portion of the heat cas shall be examined. Atleast one sample shall be taken from ach strand 713. acroetch-Specimens represenative of eoss sections of bilets shall be macroctched! and rated in accordance with Method E341 in hydrochorie acid and water (1-1) at 160 to 180°F [70 o 80°C}. Fields with sizes or ‘numbers of all types of inclusions intermediate between configurations shown on the chart shall be classified as the lesser of the rating number. The worst field of each inclusion type from each specimen shall be recorded as the rating for the specimen. Two thirds of all specimens and at least one from each ingot tested, or from the frst, middle, and last portion of the strands tested, as well ay the average of all specimens, shall nnot exceed the rating specified in Table 3. If specifically ordered and certified to Supplementary Requirement $4, Type A inclusion ratings shall not exceed 3.0 thin and 2.0 heavy. Decarburization and Surface Imperfections 9.1 Decarburization and surface imperfections shall not ‘exceed the limits specified in Tables 4 and 5, Decarburization shall be measured using the microscopical methods described in Test Method E 1077. 10. Microstructure 10.1. When annealing is specified in the order, the structure shall be rated and reported in accordance with Guide A 892 as follows: 1O.L.1 Carbide Size (CS)—As the appropriate carbide size is dependent on application, the limits shall be as agreed upor between manufacturer and purchaser, TABLE 3 Inclusion Rating ag Unis Thin Sera avy Sai e2 bo bo Comright by ASTM Int all ighs reserved
