Week 10: Thinking Critically and Ethically About Social Media and Memes

Activities (sequence/timing)

1. (1 minute) Teacher: Provide overview of the class agenda.


2. (6 minutes) Teacher: Direct students to CritLit4u website and go over key points from
Ch. 10 of AC.
3. (5 minutes) Introduce meme activity, provide instructions, and demonstrate one
example.
4. (12 minutes) Students: Work in preselected groups to analyze both memes and revise
at least 1 meme through link provided on the CritLit4u website. There will be 3 groups
total.
5. (8 minutes) Whole class discussion: Groups will present ONE of their unethical
memes by providing an analysis and presenting the revised meme.
6. (3-5 minute) Whole class discussion: Wrap-up and brief discussion of next class.

Assessment Tools

Formative: Teacher will ask students for conformation of understanding, and test students.

Summative: N/A
