Learning Objectives
After using this OER, learner will be able to:
The type of decisions that were taken while creating this OER were of following three types
1. Content Decisions
2. Pedagogic Decisions
3. Technology Decisions
This decision was made taking into consideration the area of expertise of all the team
members. All team members have taught the subject atleast once.
The topic selected was basic and of introductory level, since we had to create a video
of less than 10 minutes. If advanced topic was selected, then be have to revise some
background concepts. So the video duration may had crossed 10 minutes.
Google forms is a free service provided by Google. It can be used to conduct online
quizzes, surveys etc. It also does the analysis of all the responses and saves the
responses in a Google spreadsheet on Google Drive.
Active OER
For checking the active OER, you may visit our WordPress website
https://team713.wordpress.com/oer/
After this select the Free Plan, then click on View my site button. Now after the website has
been created the next step is to customize it. We have to provide the site title, add pages if
required. In our case, we have added a page called Open Educational Resource. After adding
the page we can edit it, put the necessary information etc.
We have uploaded our Learning Dialogue video on our YouTube channel. On YouTube,
below the video we get the following information
Click on share, then click on Embed then we get the highlighted link. Copy this link. On
WordPress page where you want to embed the video, click on edit at bottom of the page.
Then click on HTML and paste the copied link from YouTube.
Camstudio Software
CamStudio is an open-source screencasting program for Microsoft Windows released as free
software. The software renders videos in an AVI format. It can also convert these AVIs into
Flash Video format, embedded in SWF files.
The video that I have created using CamStudio is available on this link
Google Forms
We have used Google Forms for creating Learn-by-Doing activity. Using Google Forms we
have created a quiz for assessment. For doing this we can select a blank form or a readymade
template. We have selected a readymade template named as Assessment.
We can add or remove the fields on the template. We can add the fields like Class, Division
and Roll number etc.
We can add different types of questions like True or False, Multiple choice questions, short
answers, dropdown, checkbox etc.
Click on any of the field on the form, then click on the plus (+) button as shown below, it will
show the type of questions that we can add to our quiz.
Google Forms do not provide much control over the quiz. The controls like timed quiz, security
password to open quiz etc. are not available.
The OER is going to be used by students as well as other faculty members. The OER must be
useful for everyone who use it. Thus, to check how much useful a particular OER is? It must
be evaluated by everyone who use it.
The effectiveness of student learning can be evaluated from the quiz created using Google
Forms. If students score good marks the it can be inferred that they have understood the concept
of Embedded Systems that was explained in the Learning Dialogue video. The detailed analysis
of the grades of students who have attempted the quiz, is available in the spreadsheet on Google
Drive.
Also we can conduct a short survey about the OER, to check its effectiveness. The survey can
be conducted using Survey Monkey.
The community of teachers using LeD videos and LbD activities can be built by having a
website. The website must be related to a specific domain. After the peer reviewing process,
faculties from same domain can come together to contribute for creating Open Educational
Resources helpful for all.
For connecting with each other we must have some sort of contact information of other
teachers, and for collecting the contact information we have a dedicated menu called Contact,
on our WordPress website.
