ABSTRACT

In this study, It is concerning about the radiation which can be applied in radiant heating
systems. Radiant heating systems supply heat directly to the floor or to panels in the
wall or ceiling of a house. The systems depend largely on radiant heat transfer, the
delivery of heat directly from the hot surface to the people and objects in the room via
infrared radiation. There are several types of floor material that chose to apply in the
study such as ceramic porcelain, wood and concrete tiles. The main objective is to
further study the relation between radiation heat transfer and surrounding. In this study,
theory of Stefan-Boltzmann Law applied in domestic heating system and appropriate
material selected for household heating system by using radiant heat transfer. Besides,
the study can understand Stefan-Boltzmann Law and investigate the effect of emissivity
of material on radiation heat transfer. The heat transfer by radiation is determined by
using Stefan-Boltzmann Law, Q̇rad = εσA(T4-To4). The rate of heat transfer by radiation
is proportional to the emissivity of the surface ,ε where the Stefan-Boltzmann constant,
σ, area of surface emitting or absorbing the thermal radiation, A, absolute temperature
of the object emitting or absorbing the thermal radiation, T and absolute temperature of
the environment, To is remain constant. The emissivity of three type of material is
different so there have different value of emissivity that can referring from table of
emissivity of various surfaces for infrared thermometry. The higher the emissivity, the
higher heat transfer by radiation. The lower heat transfer by radiation means it is more
suitable to be used as floor material in the electric radiant floor heating system due to
the ability of storing heat energy. Among this study the best material to be used as the
floor material in the electric radiant floor heating system can determined.
