Warm up:

Four people are traveling to different places on different types

of transport.

Their names are: Rachel, Nyra, Olivia and Katie.

They either went on train, car, plane or ship.

* Katie hates flying

* Rachel has to rent her vehicle
* Olivia gets seasick

List as many possibilities as you can

There are 3 possibilities:

5-4: Inverses, Contrapositives and Indirect
Reasoning
An inverse statement negates hypothesis and the conclusion.

Example: Lines m and n are not perpendicular

Inverse: Lines m and n are perpendicular

A contrapositive switches the hypothesis and the conclusion and negates both.

Example: If it rains, then they cancel school

Contrapositive: If they do not cancel school, then it does not rain.

Write the inverse and contrapositive for each
statement
1. If you live in El Paso then you live in Texas.
2. If four points are collinear, then they are coplanar.

1. If you do not live in El Paso, then you do not

live in Texas. If you do not live in Texas, you
do not live in El Paso.
2. If four points are not collinear, then they are not
coplanar. If four points are not coplanar, then
they are not collinear.
5-5 Inequalities in Triangles
The sum of any 2 sides of a
triangle must be greater than the
largest side

Example: 5cm, 8cm, 10cm

5 + 8 > 10

12 > 10
