1. Get in front of your ideal audience

Did you know the top four social networks have been eclipsed by the top four
messaging platforms in terms of monthly active users? It’s true. And that trend
doesn’t seem to be going away.

With over 1.2 billion users on Messenger, your chances of finding the right audience
are sky high. And according to facebook, over 50% of Facebook users are more likely
to do business with you if you’re reachable via messages.

That’s why 20 million of the 70 million businesses on Facebook today are messaging
every month.

Quite simply, you can spend more time exposing your brand to the people who
actually want to buy what you’re selling. The fact is that your customers are on
Messenger. And with reported ROI’s of up to 400%, there’s no reason you shouldn’t
be too.

2. More Opens and Clicks

4

The conversion potential of Messenger is incredible. Some marketers are getting

100% open rates on some occasions, with click-through rates as high as 90%.
Traditional email open rates and click-through rates are a fraction of that.

Imagine if you were getting those kinds of numbers. More of your messages will be
read, open, and acted upon. It also shortens your sales cycle from days or weeks to
just minutes. Talk about speeding up your cash flow!

3. Less Overhead With Comment-to-Messenger

You’ll enjoy lower marketing and advertising costs by utilizing Facebook’s new
comment-to-message feature paired up with autoreplies.

Facebook now lets you autorespond via Messenger to people when they leave a
comment on your page or post.

For example, you can create a post offering a lead magnet such as a free guide or
session. To get access to it, people have to leave a comment on your post with a
certain word or phrase. Then, your autoreply system detects the magic word and
automatically sends them the correct message to tell them how to get their freebie.

Imagine getting 100’s of comments on just one post and how your cost per
engagement would go way down. You’re getting more reach thanks to Facebook’s
algorithm that determines your relevance score.

The higher your relevance score, the greater the number of people in your target
audience who will see your post and the less you’ll have to pay to reach them.

Furthermore, the added social proof from all the comments and engagement will do
wonders for your business. It means more people will open your messages and get on
your Messenger subscriber list, then your email list, and then your sales funnel without
friction.

4. Ease of Use + Automation

When an interested prospect sends your business a message, you can give them an
immediate reply with an automated message that you can set up in advance easily.
This gives the customer what they’re looking for faster without frustrating them,
leading to more sales for you.

5. Truly Conversational Sales Approach

Messenger is not one-sided like email. It’s more conversational and interactive. And
when your prospects reply back with specific words or click certain buttons, it can
trigger pre-selected responses.

This way, you’re meeting their specific needs more accurately, and it’s easier to have a
conversational sale approach online that seems more authentic.

As a bonus, you don’t have to pay extra stuff to hover over every message your page
receives 24/7.

6. Build Lists Easier than Email

You can build a Messenger subscriber list easier and cheaper than with email. Of
course, that doesn’t mean that email is dead, but Messenger will be as crucial to your
business’ online strategy as email is right now.

The great news is that they don’t have to conflict: email and Messenger can work
together and integrate in order to amplify the effects of both.

7. Shopping Cart Recovery

If you’re tired of your customers abandoning their shopping carts, you can do
something about it with Messenger. Facebook pixels allow you to track customers
through the buying process and retarget them with a variety of ad types.

One of these new ways is with popups on your landing pages or order forms that link
directly to Messenger. When you pair that with an autoreply script, your customers
can ask questions and get answers to prevent last-minute objections from killing the
sale. You can even strike while the iron is hot and close the sale right in the app itself,
thanks to buttons and links that you can set up.

Examples of Using Messenger

Obviously, the way you could use Messenger in your business is endless. It’s only
limited to your imagination and is based on the goals and systems you already have in
place.

Still, let’s take a look at some specific examples of how you might implement the tips
and tricks above to better monetize Messenger:

A) Direct Link
Direct link ads take the form of a typical Facebook newsfeed ad, like the example
below:

However, there is one notable difference from a typical newsfeed ad. Notice that a
small Facebook Messenger icon appears next to the “Learn More” text inside the CTA
button.

This informs users that clicking on the link will direct them to the Messenger chat box
instead of an outside URL or your Facebook page.

When they click it, it will open up Messenger. You can even create custom welcome
messages that will appear when Messenger opens.

Remember though that they need to send you a message in order for them to
“subscribe” to your message feed.

Luckily, when building your ad, you can preview it to make sure your welcome
message is up to par:

From there, it’s up to you to have your team manually chat with them or have your
chatbot go to work.

A few notes on direct links:

• You create this type of ad in Ad Manager or Power Editor for your

Business’ Facebook page.

• The campaign objective for your ad must be “send people to a

destination on or off Facebook” or “page post engagement.”

• When creating it, select Messenger as the destination (see below)

Luckily, there is no limit to who you can target with these ads. However, you can only
place these in the desktop or mobile newsfeed.

You can use these to drive cold leads directly to Messenger and begin a conversation
with your sales, promotion, or customer service staff, or Facebook bot.

Another great way to use this ad type is deeper in the funnel when a customer has
previously visited your website and failed to convert. By using FB pixels on your
ads at the top of your funnel, you will be able to retarget them with direct link ads
that encourage your leads to voice their objections, ask questions, or ease their
concerns by chatting in messenger. It could be the deciding factor that increases your
conversions.

B) Sponsored Messages
The second way to drive prospects back to Messenger is through sponsored
messages.

This type of ad will appear the same as a normal message would from a friend. For
example:

Of course, they’ll be alerted to this by the classic message notification as well.

Keep in mind that for sponsored messages, you can only target those who have
messaged your page previously.

Furthermore, your campaign objective must be “send people to a destination on or

off of Facebook” or “website conversions”.

In the placements section select “edit placements”, then select “messenger”:

The great part about this kind of ad is you can create links and images such as offers
and discounts that appear in the message.

Also keep in mind that Facebook charges you by the impression (CPM) for these,
even if the user doesn’t open the message. The end result is greater engagement at a
lower cost.

C) URL
Another great way to drive people to message your business’ Facebook page is via a
URL (link).

The use of ManyChat or other third party apps also makes this super simple to use.

One effective way to use this is in your emails that you send to your list:

When they click the link it will automatically open up Facebook Messenger for them
so you can begin live chatting.

Use this to tee up your sales team or even automate your whole funnel!

D) Comment-to-Message
As you know now, Facebook has a comment-to-message feature that allows you to
send a message to anyone who comments on your Facebook page.

This is a game-changer for marketers, as it allows you to take the conversation private
and personal right away.

But while Facebook offers the potential for a great many features, such as comment-
to-message, many of these features require knowledge of software engineering or
web development, API’s, and more to create “bots” that execute these capabilities.

Luckily, you don’t need to be a coder or have a lot of cash to burn to get started with
bots. There are a handful of services that have figured out the back-end, making it
really easy to take advantage of these powerful features.

One such piece of software is ManyChat, a service touted by numerous marketers

as an easy, affordable way to automate Facebook Messenger marketing (I have no
affiliate or other relationship with ManyChat, it is just one of many options).

ManyChat syncs with your Facebook Page allows you to select a post that you’ve
created and enable the “comment-to-message” feature.

The way it works is, when someone comments on your Facebook Page, it will add
them to your subscriber list, allowing you to send them followup messages (unless
they unsubscribe).

You can edit how fast or slow you send the message after they comment, which
keywords (if any) they must use or avoid in their comment to receive a message, and
what the message is that they’ll receive.

This is all done with ManyChat.com’s user-friendly interface. And instead of paying
Facebook by impressions (CPM), you only pay ManyChat $10 a month for unlimited
broadcast messages to your “list.” (And it’s actually free to start).

ManyChat has a number of automation features that allow you to create message
sequences (just like an email autoresponder), and tag and segment users based on
their clicks or responses.

An example of utilizing comment-to-message and ManyChat’s other features is the

following:

Create a post where you offer a free guide or coupon to anyone who comments with
a specific word. In this instance, they have to reply with “yes”:

13

Notice how under the comments with “yes” in them, it says “Page responded
privately”? That’s because as soon as they leave a comment you can send an
automatic followup message sequence.

Just be sure your first message tells them to respond to you via message. This will
mean they “subscribed” to your Messenger list and you can contact them after 24
hours (usually you can’t).

For example, if they responded with “yes” for the PDF guide, your welcome message
could be:

From there it’s up to you how you want to structure your autoresponses and live chats.
You might even lead them through your funnel with your drip campaign or sequence
that you already created inside of ManyChat or other third party platform.

If they have any questions or concerns along the way, you have instant communication
with them.

It has all of the benefits of a traditional email sequence with the bonus of live chat
capabilities.
