Key:  = Complete I = Incomplete (No Credit) M = Missing (No Credit) 1/2 = Not Fully Complete (½ Credit)

_____ Entry # 1: Short Term vs. Long Term Goals - “You only live once, but once you do it right, once is enough.” –Mae West
Successful people set long-term goals, and they know these aims are merely the result of short-term habits that they need to do every day.
If you want to be successful in life, it is important to understand the difference between short-term and long-term goals. Sometimes your
short-term goals lead to your long-term goals. Identify a long term goal and one or two short-terms goals that will lead to the long term
goal.

_____ Entry # 2: Jumping to Conclusions - In scene I of Oedipus, we see Oedipus jump to conclusions (making claims/accusations) without
proper evidence, which creates conflict for him. Describe a time you jumped to a conclusion. Provide context, explain the outcome, and
reflect on the experience.

_____ Entry # 3: Blind to the Truth - In Scene I of Oedipus, Teiresias states, “You mock my blindness, do you? / But I say that you, with both
your eyes, are blind…” Teiresias claims that although he [Teiresias] is literally blind, he can see what Oedipus cannot; as the reader
is aware (dramatic irony), Oedipus is figuratively blind to the truth. Describe a time that you or someone you know was "blind" to the truth
of a situation. What was the situation? Who were the people involved? What was the reality? What did you or the other person think was
the reality? How, if at all, did the truth finally come out? What were the consequences? What lessons can be learned from the experience?

_____ Entry # 4: Helping Someone in Need - In Scene I of Oedipus, Oeidpus states, “There is no fairer duty / than that of helping others in
distress.” Describe a time when you or someone you know went above and beyond to help out someone in need. It can be someone you
know well, or someone you had never met.

_____ Entry # 5: Withholding the Truth – We are often told it’s not good to lie, but sometimes we should withhold the truth to protect
someone. Think of an instance in which you withheld the truth or the truth was withheld from you. Consider the following to organize your
response:
 What were the circumstances? Who was involved?
 Was it right to withhold the truth?
 What was the effect, positive or negative, in the end?

_____ Entry # 6: Entry #6. Choose one of the following:

 Personal Growth: How have you grown this year as a human being? What are you most proud of? What experience have been the
most impactful? What have you learned about yourself, others, and the world around you? (This can be school-related, but it doesn't
have to be.)
 Summer Reading: What are your summer reading and writing plans? What books do you plan to read? What writing will you do? Think
broadly, considering any reading and writing you do, including online articles, blogs, fan sites, texting, social media, etc.

_____ Entries # 7 & #8: Reflection Letter: Reflect on your experiences in English 9R this year. Consider the following:
 What were some of the challenges you faced? How did you tackle these challenges? Did you meet success? Explain.
 What did you learn (both academically and socially)?
 What do you wish you had learned?
The letter must be at least 250 words typed, double-spaced and submitted separately along with your writer’s notebook. Address
