Installation Guide for Non-rooted Devices


This document describes how to prepare a commercial Samsung device for use with
RANAdvisor TrueSite. It applies to the following devices:
• Samsung Galaxy Note Edge 4 SM-N915V
• Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900V

Prerequisites

Prerequisites
To install RANAdvisor TrueSite on your device, you will need the following hardware and
software:
• PC running Windows 7 OS
• USB cable to connect the device to a Windows PC
– Download and install the required USB driver for the device.
• RANAdvisor TrueSite Installation ZIP file
– Download the software from the Viavi support site to your PC:
ftp2.jdsu.com/TrueSite Releases/Viavi_RANAdvisor_TrueSite_-
Full_Installation_Package_<version>/
– Contact Customer Support if you need login credentials for the FTP server (see
“Technical assistance” on page 10).

Installation procedure
Complete the steps below to install RANAdvisor TrueSite on a non-rooted device. Proce-
dures for each step are described in the sections that follow.
1 Install Samsung Kies on a Windows PC.
2 Enable USB Debugging on the device.
3 Install RANAdvisor TrueSite on the device.
4 Launch the OBDM Unlocker prior to running TrueSite.
5 Add a license to your device.

Install Samsung Kies


You must have Samsung Kies installed on your Windows PC in order for it to recognize a
Samsung device. To install the latest version of Kies software:
1 Go to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies.
2 Select Download Kies version 3 for Windows.
3 Run the Kies executable.
4 Click Finish to complete the installation.
For Windows to recognize your Samsung device it is only necessary to install the
Kies software on th PC. You do not need to run the software after installation.

Enable USB debugging mode on the device


To enable USB debugging mode on the device:
1 Go to the device Settings > About device or About phone menu.
2 Press the Build number field seven times. You will receive a message on the Devel-
oper options status.
3 Go to Settings > Developer options.
4 Enable USB debugging.

Install the RANAdvisor TrueSite application


To install the RANAdvisor TrueSite application on your device:
1 Attach the device to the PC with a USB cable.
2 On your PC, navigate to the application installation package directory to locate the
application executable: RANAdvisor_Truesite_Full_Installation_Pack-
age_<version>.exe.
3 Double-click the executable to launch the Installer.
4 The first time the device is connected to the PC, the Allow USB debugging dialog
appears. Select Allow allow from this computer and then tap OK.
After confirmation, you may need to close the Installer window and repeat Step 3.

5 Select the destination folder, and then click Install.The RANAdvisor TrueSite applica-
tion launches automatically after installation and the initial RANAdvisor TrueSite
application screen appears.

6 On the PC, press Enter when prompted at the command prompt.


7 When prompted, enter R or r on the command line to install the release build. The
RANAdvisor TrueSite application installation will complete automatically.
8 After the installation completes, wait for a minute before using the application to allow
to the application to initialize.

Add a license to your device


RANAdvisor TrueSite can be licensed with a fixed license that is tied to your device, or a
floating license from the StrataSync license server. See the section below for your license
type:
• “Add a fixed license” on page 4
• “Add a floating license” on page 6

NOTE
The first time you launch the TrueSite application you will be presented with OBDM
Unlocker options. Click Proceed with OBDM Locked, and add a license to the device.
When licensing is complete, run the OBDM Unlocker as described in “Run the OBDM
Unlocker” on page 7.

Add a fixed license


1 Go to the device apps list on the phone and launch TrueSite.

2 The first time you launch the TrueSite application, you will be presented with OBDM
unlocker options. Click Proceed with ODBM Locked.

3 When TrueSite starts, you will see an end user license agreement screen. Review
the terms of the agreement, then click the Accept button.
4 You will receive a prompt to enter a fixed license unlock code, or register the device
with StrataSync to use floating licenses.

5 When purchasing a Fixed license for your device, the serial number of the device is
required to be provided with the purchase order. To get the serial number of your
device, select Enter a fixed unlock code in the screen above then tap the Select
button. Your Device ID will be displayed on the next screen.
6 Include the Device ID in the Purchase Order to obtain fixed Unlock Codes for the
following base measurement options (note that an additional license is required for
eMBMS measurements):
– TrueSite PRO Fixed Software License [E5643B-950]
– TrueSite Lite Fixed Software License [E5643B-951]

7 After entering the Unlock Code, you will receive a prompt to enter additional licenses.
Click Yes to add more licenses; otherwise click No. You can also add licenses later.

Add a floating license


The registration process will sync your device with the StrataSync server and push
licenses that the Administrator has deployed to the device.

Before you begin:


• Check with your StrataSync Administrator to find out if you need a StrataSync
account number and Technician ID in order to register the device.
• Verify that the Administrator has deployed the necessary licenses to the device.

To register your device:


1 Launch RANAdvisor TrueSite on the device. The first time you run TrueSite, you will
be presented with OBDM Unlocker options. Click Proceed with ODBM Locked to
launch TrueSite.

2 On the TrueSite Main menu, tap the StrataSync icon.


3 Verify that StrataSync is ON.
4 Under Advanced Settings, select Account ID, Server and Proxy Settings.
5 Enter a Technician ID if you have one.
6 Enter the StrataSync server address. The default address is stratasync.jdsu.com.
7 [Optional] Select Proxy Settings to add your Proxy Server and Port details. Select
Proxy Login Settings to enter your proxy server Username and Password.
8 Select License Push from Administration.

9 Click Sync Now. You will receive a notification when the sync is complete.
10 To view the licenses installed on the device and associated expiration dates, select
Licenses from the TrueSite Main menu.

Run the OBDM Unlocker


Before running TrueSite for the first time on the device, you must unlock the DCI channel.
TrueSite caches the unlocking PIN for use on subsequent restarts. There is no need to run
the OBDM Unlocker again unless the SIM is changed.

To unlock the device you can follow the default procedure below or use the OBDM
Unlocker app.

NOTE
You must activate a TrueSite license on the device prior to unlocking the OBDM SIM.

To unlock the DCI channel on the device:


1 Turn off the device, then insert the specially provisioned OBDM SIM from Verizon
Wireless. After inserting the SIM turn on the device.
2 A few minutes after the device boots up, you will receive a notification in the Android
notification tray indicating a PIN is required.

3 Launch the TrueSite application. You will see the following screen.

4 Click Launch OBDM Unlocker.


5 The ICCID of the SIM you inserted is displayed at the top of the OBDM Unlocker
screen. In the blocks provided, enter the 4 digit PIN code provided with your SIM.

6 Once the PIN is verified, the TrueSite application launches automatically. After a few
minutes confirm that RF data is populated.

NOTE
Each time the device is power-cycled, it generates a “PIN required” notification while it
searches for the cached PIN. This process can take up to 1.5 minutes. When the device
detects the PIN, the notification is dismissed. You can then start the TrueSite applica-
tion.
If you try to start TrueSite before the PIN is detected, you will be presented with the
OBDM “Hold On” screen. After the device detects the PIN, it dismisses the Hold On
screen and launches TrueSite.

To clear the cache and force a user to enter the PIN each time the device restarts:
1 Open the OBDM Unlocker app.
2 From the menu in the upper right, select Clear Cache.
