measurement, and inquiry Lesson 3- “Testing the Waters…and Milk!” lesson was a complete success. The students loved working together and did a great job collaborating. I was impressed that the students were able to accurately record the data, and quickly without my support. The students loved handling the blue dyed ice cubes. They made really thoughtful predictions with drawings of what their regular cup looked like, and also what would happen when the blue ice cube was inserted into the water. The kids were engaged because the dramatic effect of the blue water dissolving at a quick rate in front of their eyes! I was pleased that most student predictions were accurate. I cannot think of anything that did not go well in this lesson. The instruction and planning worked to my benefit because my students had maximized time for exploration. My goals for the student’s performance objectives were obtained. The students walked away with a deeper understanding of temperature and change. They realized how fun and valuable prediction and observation can be in science. The students felt excited to use the special weather instruments and blue ice cubes. They liked being in control of the activity and having kid-friendly conversations within their small groups. I supported the students with best practices throughout the activity to facilitate a real-life experience that would stick with them long after the activity was finished. I really would not change much about the structure or content of this lesson. I felt that all of my students understood the big idea’s because they learned by doing in this lesson.
