BEHAVIORAL SYMPTOMS

Anorexia is characterized not only by the obsession with thinness, but by the refusal to

maintain a body weight appropriate to age and height. In fact, the obsession with not

getting fat increases the perception of the shape and size of the body.

VOLUNTARY FOOD RESTRICTION

The constant concern for the ingested calories leads to voluntarily restrict the

consumption of a greater number of foods each time, even reducing the intake of

liquids.

EXCESSIVE EXERCISE

The constant concern for the image, leads people with anorexia to exercise compulsively

with the sole purpose of losing weight and even reaching exhaustion

WEIGHED COMPULSIVELY

The obsession with not raising a gram of fat can be such that they weigh themselves

after each meal.

ABUSING THE USE OF LAXATIVES

Laxatives and other diuretics favor greater weight loss. Although, abuse of your

consumption can take its toll on our health, because it can increase the risk of

constipation and abdominal pain.

In men or women with an abnormal preoccupation with food, several other behaviors

should also be recognized as clear warning signs of anorexia nervosa, or possibly other

eating or body image disorders:

 difficulty concentrating

 skipping meals

 making excuses for not eating

 weighing food
 cooking elaborate meals for others but refusing to eat

 frequent checking in the mirror for perceived flaws

 wearing baggy or layered clothing

 complaining about being fat
