Chapters 1-2
Before you read
1 Look at the pictures in the book. What do you think the story is about? Read the
Introduction. Were you right?
R: I think that the images is wrong because the introduction says that Elise saw the children with
coats and bags but the image show one child that raise your hands and adults are aim to him with
a weapon.
2 Answer the questions. Find the words in italics in your dictionary. They are all in the
story.
a. Who fights for an army?
R: The soldiers are the ones who fight in an army and form an army of many men or women. Those
who fight in an army are those who defend a state, nation or ideology.
b. Where in a bedroom do you find curtains?
R: The curtains in a bedroom are in the windows.
c. If your room is dusty, what do you do?
R: If it's dusty I clean my room with some soap and water.
d. Do you believe in ghosts?
R: Yes, I believe in ghosts, because I believe that there are some souls that
do not go to the beyond.
e. Is a grave for a living person or a dead one?
R: The tombs are for the dead people to rest in peace.
f. Where can you see your image?
R: I can see my image in photos or looking in the mirror.
g. What are war memorials usually made of?
R: The monuments are usually made to last over time for many years, are
usually made of stone, 1 cement, mud, or hard and durable construction
materials.
h. Who is married to your stepmother'?
R: My Father.
i. Who works in a town hall?
R: The mayor, the councilor and other members of the assembly work.
