• How did you find out about CrossFit?
My boyfriend, Kurt.

• How have CrossFit workouts changed you?

I am sleeping better and have more energy
throughout the day. I have also noticed a big

This Ain’t Your Granddaddy’s Workout

When visitors or new members walk through
the doors of TitanFit, one of the first things I say
is, “Today, while you are here, forget everything
you know about fitness. This ain’t your daddy’s

I started saying it after I asked a first-day

on your site? If so, why didn’t you mention the D-

ME: Nice catch. We are open from 10:00 AM to Day. I have made some references to holiday (e.g.

also made mention to member’s birthdays. But as

Exercise has always been a part of my life. I

was on a swim team growing up and I have pretty
much always belonged to a gym. Like most people,
I gained some weight in college (thanks dining hall
cheese fries and late-night Taco Bell runs!) but I
lost it the year after I graduated and I then weighed
the same as I did when I graduated high school.
However, I was one of those skinny fat people. I
was smaller, but I did not have any definition. I lost
fat and that was it. I didn’t build any muscle. and Seth and I did Fight Gone Bad. It went alright
My fiance Jerry started getting into CrossFit in minus the mishap I had with the wall ball in which

comfort zone and did the elliptical for another year. TitanFit was great.
Eventually though, curiousity got the best of I kept going back and it’s been nearly a year

CrossFit > machines at the gym.
I can’t lie, I still occasionally go to the gym
when I can’t make it out to Herb’s, but the workout
I get there doesn’t even compare to the workout I
get at TitanFit. I feel stronger than I ever have in my
entire life. The once-foreign words that Jerry would
talk about - back squat, front squat, overhead squat,
deadlift, split jerk, clean, etc. - now all have a place
in my vocabulary as well. I can deadlift 1.25 x body
weight, I can row a 2:06 500M and I can do real,
non-girl push-ups that actually count! My next goal
is a pull-up and I feel confident that I’ll be able to
get one soon. Wall ball and I still aren’t very good
friends, but I’m okay with that.

CrossFit and Learning
Do you keep a log?
Six weeks ago, Jessica struggled with 10
weightless air squats during her warm-up. On June
13th, she did 100 Thrusters (a front squat combined
with a push press). A hundred thrusters! She
knocked out the 100 after doing 30 air squats during
her warm-up. Did I mention she did 100 Thrusters?!
When she finished, one of the other members
looked at me and said, “You should write that box jumps in two minutes, and two months later
down.” It needs to be notated as it is pretty cool that you were now able to do 20 18-inch box jumps in
