Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC):

Qs1:
Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) is a community
college located in the state of Texas. TVCC was founded in 1946
as Henderson County Junior College the county seat, and adopted
its current name in September 1986, which was taken from the
Trinity River which bisects the region. TVCC operates four
campuses serving the Texas counties of Anderson, Henderson,
and Kaufman, located southeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth
Metroplex. The TVCC Health Science Center is located in
Kaufman.
The mission statement of TVCC is:
“Trinity Valley Community College is a learning-centered
college that provides quality academic, workforce, and
community service programs to meet the educational needs of
our students and the citizens of our service area.”

Qs 2:
TVCC would begin its expansion to a multi-site campus in 1969
when it began to offer courses at a nearby Texas Department of
Criminal Justice unit. Therefore the revision of its

A committee of senior management including Microsoft Chief
Operating Officer Kevin Turner, chief software architect,
Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer and other
senior leaders created this new broader vision statement. Instead
of hiring any outside consultant, Microsoft used discussion group
of managers to develop or modify the existing statement. Firstly,
the group identified the opportunity in terms of the new winning
idea for Microsoft, which was “the transforming potential for the
IT industry”. Later, managers were asked to merge their
individual statements into a single document, which was then
distributed to the rest of the managers. The approval and
modification request was passed, after which Microsoft held the
final meeting for the document revision, and a unanimous
approval about this vision statement by the group was made.

Qs 4:
In Microsoft, the vision and mission statements are used internally
to:

• Guide management's thinking on strategic issues, especially


during times of significant change as happened in 1999

• Help define performance standards.

• Inspire employees to work more productively by providing


focus and common goals

• Guide employee decision making, which is one of the


major reasons of Microsoft’s innovation.
• Help establish a framework for ethical behavior

And Externally to

• Create closer linkages and better communication with


customers, suppliers and alliance partners
• Serve as a public relations tool.
