The Latest Information on

Direct Printing Out of Measurement Reports

We would like to review the direct printing out available so far as well as the recent
upgrade of the direct printing out in regard with SSD-5500 Ver. 5.0.1 and SSD-5000
Ver. 4.0.1 referred to in the News Letter, No.893.
Our diagnostic ultrasound systems described below are now able to print out OB/GYN
and urology measurement reports directly to Hewlett-Packard printers.

Compatible printers:
Hewlett-Packard printers of PCL (Printer Command Language) level 3 or higher.
Deskjet 95X series (X can be anything) printers meet this requirement.

Compatible software versions for each application:

A. In case of SSD-5500/-5000/-1400/-1000:
(1) Isolation units
The necessary isolation units are the same units necessary for ALK-3 data
communication, which were introduced in our newsletter No. 894.
Please be advised that it is not possible to perform ALK-3 data communication and
direct printing out at the same time. (You need to change the connection of the
relevant cable each time for performing direct printing out or ALK-3 data
communication.)
(2) Serial-parallel converter:
A serial-parallel converter needs to be connected to the printer. Please procure a
commercially available converter at your side.
(3) Wire connection:
Please prepare necessary cable at your side.
Wire connection between the ultrasound unit and the printer must be cross
connection.
Therefore, when the connection of the serial-parallel converter is straight, use a
cross-connection cable. When the connection of the serial-parallel converter is
cross, use a straight-connection cable.

B. In case of SSD-4000
(1) Isolation units
SSD-4000 does not need an isolation unit for direct printing out.
However, for ALK-3 data communication, SSD-4000 needs the isolation unit SIU-
4000. (Please refer to the newsletter No. 894 for the details of ALK-3.)
(2) Serial-parallel converter:
SSD-4000 does not need any serial-parallel converter as it has a parallel port.
(3) Wire connection:
SSD-4000 needs a Centronics cable as it has a parallel port.
