UPPER HITCH ASSEMBLY

(1) Bolt and washer. (2) Cover. (3) Cap. (4) Seal. (5) Cup. (6) Cone. (7) Shim. (8) Cup. (9) Cone. (10) Bolt and washer.
(11) Cap. (12) Seal. (13) Pin.

NOTE: Clean threads with Lockquic Primer and apply Loctite 271 or similar thread lock to the
following bolts prior to assembly.

(1) Torque bolts to ... 120 ± 7 N·m (90 ± 5 lb ft)

(10) Torque bolts to ... 120 ± 7 N·m (90 ± 5 lb ft)

Upper Hitch Assembly Instructions:

1. Install seals (4) and (12) in caps (3) and (11). Lubricate sealing lips with lubricant being sealed.

2. Coat bores with 5P0960 Lubricant.

NOTE: Use five 4B4280 Washers on each bolt in next step.

3. Install three bolts and washers (10), equally spaced around lower cap (11).

4. Cool bearing cups (5) and (8) down to -75 ± 5°C (-103 ± 9°F) and install lower cup (8) in bearing
housing.

5. Drive cup down to ensure contact with cap (11).

6. Lubricate cones (6) and (9) with oil and install.

7. Install cooled top cup (5) and drive down to ensure light contact pressure on cones.

8. Install shim (7), upper cap (3), three bolts and washers (10) and tighten.

9. Install torquing bolt assembly and tighten.

10. Apply torque wrench to torquing bolt and read torque necessary to rotate cones.

11. If torque is within a range of 2.3 to 13.6 N·m (20 to 120 lb in), install remaining bolts and tighten.

12. If torque is LESS THAN 2.3 N·m (20 lb in) or GREATER THAN 13.6 N·m (120 lb in), remove
or add shims to obtain correct rotating torque. The removal of shims will increase the torque and the
addition of shims will cause a torque decrease.

Upper Hitch Pin Tightening Procedure:

1. Install pin assembly (13) through aligned upper hitch bores.

2. Install cover (2) and the two bolts that fasten the cover to the pin. Tighten the bolts.

3. Install bolts (1) and tighten two diagonally opposite bolts to 120 ± 7 N·m (90 ± 5 lb ft).

4. Tighten the two remaining bolts.

(16) Torque bolts to ... 270 ± 13 N·m (200 ± 10 lb ft)

Lower Hitch Assembly Instructions:

1. Install seals (5) and (11) in caps (4) and (12). Lubricate sealing lips with lubricant being sealed.

2. Coat bores with 5P0960 Lubricant.

3. Install four bolts (3), equally spaced around lower cap (12).

4. Cool bearing cups (7) and (9) down to -75 ± 5°C (-103 ± 9°F) and install lower cup (9) in bearing
housing.

5. Drive cup down to ensure contact with cap (12).

6. Lubricate cones (8) and (10) with oil and install.

7. Install cooled top cup (7) and drive down to ensure light contact pressure on cones.

8. Install shim (6), upper cap (4), four bolts and washers (3) and tighten diagonally opposite bolts to
120 ± 7 N·m (90 ± 6 lb ft).

9. Install torquing bolt assembly and tighten.

10. Apply torque wrench to torquing bolt and read torque necessary to rotate cones.

11. If torque is within a range of 11.3 to 39.6 N·m (8.3 to 29.1 lb ft), install remaining bolts and
tighten.

12. If torque is LESS THAN 11.3 N·m (8.3 lb ft) or GREATER THAN 39.6 N·m (29.1 lb ft), remove
or add shims to obtain correct rotating torque. The removal of shims will increase the torque and the
addition of shims will cause a torque decrease.

Lower Hitch Pin Tightening Procedure:

1. Install pin (1) and spacers (2) and (13).

2. Install lower plate (14), two bolts and washers (16), 180° apart. Tighten to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).

3. Measure gap 360° around between frame and plate (14).

4. Install shim (17) of average measured thickness under plate.

5. Install all bolts and tighten.
