Jermaine M's City Tips
■ Eating out might get expensive in Munich. Remember the secret of Bavarian beer gardens, though: You are
allowed to bring your own food!
■ Munich is a bike-friendly city, where the many bike lanes take you almost everywhere.
■ Don't be surprised: Along the Isar River and in some parks, it's very common to see nudists.
■ Public transportation is very efficient. The subway usually comes every 10 minutes.

Day 1
Marienplatz
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Jermaine M Says:
“Every big city has at least one place that tourists must visit. In Munich, this is Marienplatz. Home to the Town
Hall (Rathaus), the historic square is always buzzing with people who come to shop, take in its beautiful
architecture, and watch the Glockenspiel tower put on its animated show.”
Good for Must See History Buff Shopping Fanatic Art and Architecture Lover
о Tips
■ The Glockenspiel, which portrays the city's history, happens at 11am and 12pm daily. There is also a 5pm show from
March through October.
■ The tourist information office on the ground floor of the Rathaus is a good place to stop and ask questions, or get
information to plan your day.

Jermaine M Says:
“Alter Peter (Old Peter) to the locals, St. Peter's Church is one of the most iconic sights in Munich. If you want to
enjoy a view of the entire city center from the church tower, you will first need to climb 299 steps — but the sight is
worth the effort. When the weather is very good, you can also see all the way to the Alps.”

о Tips
■ The stairs up to the tower get narrow, and with the number of people going up and down, it's not the best idea if you
have a fear of being in tight spaces.

Viktualienmarkt
Flea & Street Markets
Jermaine M Says:
“Born as a farmers market, Viktualienmarkt has evolved into a popular hub where you can find all sorts of fresh
food and deli items. Here, you can join the locals in browsing and buying flowers and plants, fruits and vegetables,
wine and tea, honey, fish, meat, herbs, cheese, and exotic ingredients that are not available anywhere else in the
area.”
о Tips
■ The market is open every day except Sunday.

Munich Residence
Speciality Museums
Jermaine M Says:
“The Residenz was once the city castle of the Bavarian dukes, princes, and emperors. Today, it is the largest
city-center castle in Germany. Constructed through the centuries, the complex of buildings is a mix of Renaissance,
Baroque, Rococo, and Classical styles. The interior decoration is particularly significant: You will find unique
furniture, oil paintings, tapestries, and porcelain.”

о Tips
■ If you want to know more about the Bavarian dukes and princes, you can also visit the Bavarian Museum.

English Garden
Bodies of Water, Parks, Gardens
Jermaine M Says:
“This beautiful (and vast) park is one of the main reasons residents and visitors love Munich. On sunny days at the
English Garden, you'll see people of all ages and nationalities partaking in sports, playing their own music,
drinking beers, or taking naps on the grass. Of course, the park blanketed in snow also has its particular charms...”
о Tips
■ If you want to avoid the crowd, go to the northern part of the park.
■ There are several beer gardens in the park. The most famous (and oldest) is located by the "Chinesische Turm"
(Chinese Tower).
■ Adventurers like to surf the rapids of the Eisbach River. It's fun to watch (or join) them.

Hofbrauhaus Munchen
Bars & Clubs, Points of Interest & Landmarks
Jermaine M Says:
“Here is your chance to taste the lofty beverage that Munich's dukes and princes used to drink: beer, and Hofbräu
in particular. The first Hofbräu brewery was founded in 1589 by the Duke Wilhelm V, right where the famous
Hofbräuhaus stands today (so really, drinking beer here is a history lesson...).”

particular histories. Three such museums are linked under the 'Pinakothek,' with Alte (Old) Pinakothek containing
works from the Middle Ages to the end of the Rococo era, Neue (New) picking up in the 19th century, and Moderne
hitting modern and contemporary art and design.”

Flaucher
Points of Interest & Landmarks, Bodies of Water
Jermaine M Says:
“The River Isar comes directly from the Alps, and because it's usually quite clean, many people swim here. The
Flaucher Beach section of the river is a white stony beach where barbecuing is allowed. On sunny days, this place is
as packed as a music festival!”
о Tips
■ The water current might be quite strong, especially for kids, so pay attention.

Großgastätte, near Marienplatz.”
о Tips

Olympiapark
Parks, Jogging Paths & Tracks, Arenas & Stadiums
Jermaine M Says:
“Built in 1972 for the Olympic games, Olympiapark is now a place for sports, concerts, exhibitions, and events. Its
TV tower is not as famous as the one in Berlin, but from the top you can really enjoy a fantastic view of the city,
and the park in particular.”

meteorological instruments on the museum's tower work.”
о Tips

Allianz Arena
Arenas & Stadiums
Jermaine M Says:
“The architecturally stunning Allianz Arena is home to both the FC Bayern München and TSV 1860 München
football teams. You can tell who's playing because the stadium lights up in red for Bayern and in blue for TSV.”
о Tips
■ The best way to experience the arena is obviously by attending a game, but on non-game days, you can join a guided
tour.
