CSU:

CARMEN MANGROVES EXTRACTION

CLASSIFICATION

Create new levels for each step of the extraction process (e.g. Level 1: Segmentation,
Level 2: Assign Elevation, etc). It is important to create a structure for your project. This
will help us easily identify the changes made. It will also benefit you in cases when you
need to re-run a specific part of the process.
CLASSIFICATION

You may perform manual deletions of the misclassifications in ArcGIS, but keep it
minimal so that the accuracy will not be compromised.
CLASSIFICATION

The vegetation cover in this area varies when you observe closely. Kindly verify if these
are mangroves or not.
CLASSIFICATION

Some misclassifications observed in the project:

• Built-ups classified as mangroves
• Other vegetation classified as mangroves
CLASSIFICATION

Same vegetation type can be found in this area but only some patches were extracted.
If these are mangroves, kindly classify the whole area.
CLASSIFICATION

It seems like the classification became confusing in this area. In cases like this, it is
important to have validation points to distinguish the mangroves from non-
mangroves.
OVERALL
• Look for other cases similar to those
presented in the previous slides and apply
the necessary refinements.
• As agreed in the project leaders’ meeting,
it is required to conduct actual field
validations for the collection of training
and validation points. Maps should be
validated before turnover.
