Proposal: Give Blood Campaign on Campus

This Union Notes:

1. The University currently runs Blood donation sessions. However, these are not advertised as
efficiently as possible.

2. Students have shown interest in donating blood, but have experienced difficulty in attaining a
session. This is due to the popularity of the limited sessions currently on offer.

3. There are already blood donation sessions taking place in Leicester. These can be booked
online once an individual has signed up to the NHS Give Blood register.

This Union Believes:

1. Campaigning on campus will encourage students to become blood donators and this will
undoubtedly positively benefit society.

2. In addition, holding advertised blood donation sessions every 16 weeks, (once a term,) will
greatly increase the amount of donations for the NHS.

3. Gay and bisexual men should be allowed to give blood without fear of prejudice or
discrimination. The Union should encourage students to support the Donation Not
Discrimination Campaign run by the NUS by signing the petition.

This Union Resolves:

1. To mandate the relevant Officer to set up a Blood Donation Campaign to materialize in the
following format:
- The campaign to begin around the start of the next academic year.
- The campaign to be advertised through all available media tools on campus.
- To establish digital application forms for sign-ups, in order for students to receive SMS
updates/emails, updating them on upcoming sessions.
- Sessions occurring every 16 weeks on campus and/if possible at Oadby Halls of Residences.

2. To mandate the relevant Officers to link the Blood Donation Campaign with the NUS
Donation Not Discrimination Campaign, by encouraging students to sign the petition
against the ban.
