FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL
During our first week of school, I introduced
students to each of the courses, voiced them
into assigned seating (if they were in Chorus
classes), and began an introduction in Music
Theory. Music Appreciation students began
to learn about the music eras, heard
examples from each of the five discussed,
and had an intro course to music theory. We
even did a little singing!
I’m looking forward to the next school year at
the CASTLE, and I hope your students are
just as excited to learn more about music and
create a safe-haven within.
Forms have been released for our Leadership
Team, which those members are still
pending, but once I get the final count, I will
be sure to announce our final numbers!
Also, students were made aware of
enrichment opportunities, including
attending other arts events (which can be
literally anywhere, as long as they have a
program). They also may take up volunteer
opportunities.
Advanced Women’s Chorus was made aware
that they will be singing the National
Anthem at home football games. We’ve
already begun rehearsing it in class, and the
ladies sound stunning! I can’t wait to hear
their progress with it.
The students can expect to perform in 2
concerts over the school year (winter and
spring), and we will likely have a concert in

AUGUST 2ND, 2018 OR PRIOR
collaboration with the Band Department that
will be off campus for an additional holiday
performance with Advanced Women’s
Chorus.
Student fees will likely be $60 for those in
Issue Date
Advanced Women’s Chorus to pay for their
dresses, although I’m trying to keep the
dresses they’ve already purchased in the past
so they do not have to pay once again. New
students in the class will need to pay this fee,
but may also raise the money through
fundraising opportunities to pay for the full
or partial amount.
We will have a kick-off to our new fundraiser
at the end of August going into September
after Labor Day Weekend, so be looking out
for that.
Beginning Chorus was informed of their
uniforms:
Females – Black dress with black close-toed
shoes OR black blouse and black slacks,
professional looking.
Males – White button-down shirt, black
slacks, black belt, black dress shoes, and
black socks.
I made clear what my rules and procedures
are, which are available in the syllabus and
the Chorus Handbook. The modifications to
certain materials in the Handbook, such as
the change in student fees, will be
announced to the students.

What to Expect
I teach 3 courses:
• Advanced Women’s Chorus
• Beginning Chorus
• Music Appreciation
By the end of the year, you can expect to do
the following standards if you are a chorus
singer:

OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND
PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Leadership Team
Forms are still available with Mrs. Foster to help
contribute to the community, help with chorus
recruitment, and create a more fulfilling environment
for the students based on the spoken needs of students
themselves.
Booster Club
A sign up was available during Open House, but if you
were unavailable, I am working to form a Booster Club
to help finance choral resources including, but not
limited to, uniforms, travel, polos for casual
performances, accompanists, etc. Please email me at

becoming involved.

What Are We Doing This Week?
Monday, August 6th, 2018 – Friday, August
10th, 2018: Chorus students will answer an
essential question upon entering class to
include in their reflection checks. They will
move on to sight-reading exercises, then
reviewing/learning music for upcoming
performances. Theory will continue to be
taught and practiced in Beginning Chorus,
while a pre-test for Advanced Women’s will
take place to see their level of knowledge
and what information needs to be reiterated
before moving forward.
Music Appreciation will continue their review
of music history and theory, along with
learning the Introduction chapter of What’s
That Sound? We will continue through
Chapter 4 on Friday, give and take how long
each lesson is.
