Course Requirements:
The learners are expected to work cooperatively with each other. They will form themselves into groups with 3
to 4 members, depending on the total number of students. The group will become the basis for group papers, class
presentation, and the final integrating project. After every unit, the learners will have the opportunity to form a new
set of groupings. Because of the reality of the free-rider problem, the learners will assess their group members by
completing peer evaluation forms, which are confidential and require forced ranking, that is, no two members of the
group can have the same grade.

1) Class reports and participation – Class meetings are highly interactive. The learners are expected to attend
class having read the required reading materials. Each group will lead several class discussions by reporting
the required readings. The presentation of the group will take 30 minutes. In making the presentation, please
note that (1) the group must identify and explain at least 10 keywords or key terms that capture the main
points of the readings; and (2) the group must reflect on the issue raised by the readings, and contrast what
they have learned from the readings with whatever prior knowledge they had. The group is expected to be
creative in making presentation. Group members are required to complete the Peer Evaluation Tool for Group
Reports and Class Presentations.

2) Quizzes – Short quizzes will mainly serve as formative assessment. However, select announced quizzes and
activities will be rated and will be a part of the student’s final rating.
3) Major Exams – There is no final exam in this course, but there will be 3 major exams (Prelim, Midterm, and
Pre-Final).

4) Thought Papers – Three group thought papers and one individual thought paper must be submitted in the

5) Integrating Project – The final project offers the learners the opportunity to integrate what they have learned
in this course. The project – which can take any creative form – must present Rizal in an interesting and
creative way. The group project will be presented in class. If the project is in digital format, the group must
provide the instructor a copy of the file during presentation. If possible, judges will be invited to evaluate the
projects. Group members are required to complete the Peer Evaluation Tool for Final Group Project. The form
must be submitted confidentially.

a) Concept Paper – A concept paper must be submitted a week after pre-final exam (hard or soft
copy, whichever is preferred). It should describe the general plan for the project, its
implementation and what its overall message. The learners may explain how their projects will
change or add to the prevailing views about Rizal and why they think their project will succeed
in its objective. A printed copy must be submitted in class during the presentation.

2) Others: Students are responsible for knowing the regulations of the department, college, and university
concerning topics such as withdrawals, academic misconduct (those who engage in any form of academic
dishonesty will fail this course), incomplete grades, and so on.

Suggested Research/Extension Work


The learners may organized a community activity exemplifying the Rizal’s value of leadership and nation-
building. The activity may be a leadership training.

Classroom Policies
The instructor shall be given the discretion to make classroom policies provided that it shall not violate the
rules and regulations as stated in the student’s handbook. All throughout the semester the learners are expected to
complete the requirements specified hereof with a passing grade.
