    Reimagined Lasley Park reopening celebration 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 18 Members of the public are invited to attend a reopening celebration of the reimagined Lasley Park at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18 near the park playground located at 6677 W. Florida Ave. The park features a modern playground; games court with pingpong, corn hole and chess; fitness equipment; sand volleyball court; basketball court; tennis courts; trails; picnic shelters; and seating. Mayor Adam Paul and Ward 3 City Council members Pete Roybal and Mike Bieda will speak at the event. Fitness staff will demonstrate the new outdoor fitness equipment, and attendees have the opportunity win game sets to use at the park. Acquired from Foothills Park and Recreation District in 2001, the 10-acre Lasley Park recently received a new plan for the site through a robust public participation process and in collaboration with graduate students at CU Denver’s College of Architecture and Planning through the Hometown Colorado Initiative. Through this initiative, landscape architecture students worked on several concepts for the public’s consideration in the spring of 2016. They held public meetings to gather feedback, which resulted in the development of the final plan. Three of the students were retained under contract by the city to finish the project under the guidance of a city landscape architect. Lakewood’s City Council funded the park renovation in the 2017 budget. The Ward 3 community picnic will follow the event from noon to 2 p.m. For information on the community picnic, please visit Lakewood.org/CityCouncilWardMeetings.
