1.0 TITLE:
To collect various building materials from market and building sites to study their properties and
uses.

2.0 PRIOR CONCEPTS:

Types of various building materials. Criteria for selection of building material, uses of building
materials.

3.0 NEW CONCEPTS

Proposition 1: Binding Materials.
The materials which binds the various ingredients in construction process like Cement Mortar,
Concrete etc.

Proposition 2: Materials for Doors & windows

Wood, Steel, Aluminum, Concrete, Plywood etc. The Materials are used for manufacturing of doors
and window frames.

Proposition 3: Plywood, Sun mica, Formica

The materials used for interior decoration, for Panels, Furniture.

Proposition 4: Floor finishes & roofs:

The materials used for floors & roofs

4.0 LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

2. To select various building materials according to the utility, purpose and situations.
3. To under stand the difference between same materials.
4. To know the Specifications of different building materials.
5. To understand the faults in building materials

5.0 STEPWISE PROCEDURE:

The students shall record the information on the following points.
1. The students shall visit at least 5 various shops of building materials and different construction
sites to collect various building materials.
2. The students should record the various types of building materials available in the market or
on sites.
