Safety against overheating of oil -- Film Temperature
• The temperature of oil film near the
heated surface is higher than the bulk temperature of oil . • Maximum film temperature is found in the furnace where maximum radiation is received. • Reasons of high film temperature – Flame impingement on tubes – High heat flux – Low velocity of oil inside tube Effect of high film temperature - Fluid cracks due to overheating - Carbon deposits on tube wall - Eventual tube failure
