How To Install Ubuntu Using Virtual Box 1

HOW TO INSTALL UBUNTU USING VIRTUAL BOX

To complete the project, you need:

 A computer to work on
 Microsoft Word or the same word processing application
 Ubuntu OS ISO File
 Oracle Virtual Box
 Knowledge in installing OS

1. Download the necessary items/tools needed.

2. Open the downloaded Installer Setup for Virtual Box. Click next until it finishes installing.

(Do not change any default settings)

3. The following Window will be displayed when you successfully installed the Virtual Box.

4. Click new and wait for the virtual hard drive to be created. This is actually just a very large

file that lives inside of your Windows installation.

5. Type any name in the Name field (such as Ubuntu or Linux). For “Operating System,”

choose “Linux.” The version will automatically default to “Ubuntu.” Click “Next” when

you’re done.

6. Select the amount of memory your VM will use and click “Next.” When you chose your

operating system in the previous step, Virtual Box automatically recommends the proper

amount of memory to use. If you feel this amount isn’t correct, you can move the slider or

type a new amount in the box. Click “Next then Create” when you’re done.

7. The next thing to do to make the (currently blank) virtual hard drive useful is to add the

downloaded Ubuntu disk image (the .iso) boot on your virtual machine. Click

on Settings and Storage. Then, under CD/DVD Device, next to Empty, you'll see a little

folder icon. Click that.

8. Select the Ubuntu .iso you downloaded earlier.

9. Once you've selected it, click OK.

Then double-click your virtual machine to start it up.

10. You may get a bunch of random warnings/instructions about how to operate the guest

operating system within Virtual Box. Read those, and then you may also want to mark

not to see those again. Wait for Ubuntu to boot up.

11. Once it's started up, just follow the regular installation procedure as if you were installing

Ubuntu on a real hard drive (instead of a virtual one). You can follow instructions at

12. Afterwards, in order to use your virtualized installation (instead of continually booting the

live CD), double-check that the CD/DVD Device entry is Empty again.
