f Your Union:
Benefits o
○ Collective Bargaining Agreements - Our contacts represent decades of bargaining. Salaries for
newer and veteran educators are very competitive with similar communities. In recent contracts,
we have added a pensionable Step 20 to respect longevity/experience and an M-60 column to
recognize educational accomplishments. Additionally, there have been improvements to parenting
leave, P.D. reimbursement, personal days and more. This would not be possible without a strong
union!
○ Insurance & Legal Services - If sued by a parent or student personally, your Union supports up to
$1M in Educator Liability coverage. The MTA provides legal service support for employment
discrimination claims, criminal charges related to employment, etc.
○ Community & Camaraderie - Uniting SPS educators with a collective voice and
common interests in support of the common good for our members, our students, our
schools and our profession!
○ Collective Voice - A voice of professional advocacy at the State and National levels
that champions public education as well as supports students, members and the labor
movement.
○ Discounts - Discounts and deals which save you money through MTA and NEA Benefits. Benefits
include special rates and programs for members including insurance, banking, sporting events,
tickets, and other discounts.
○ Advice & Enhanced Protection - Funding to protect our compensation, benefits, and individual
rights. Legal, health, licensure, and retirement advice is provided for individuals and and locals.
○ Grants & Professional Development - The MTA and NEA sponsor grant and professional
development opportunities supporting professional growth and local association advancement.

School and staffing needed to run the school. Supported the “Yes” vote through member advocacy
within the community.
○ During challenging times, the STA worked tirelessly to save faculty jobs. With the recent
upper elementary and Gates grade-level reconfiguration and for this current school year when
there was an approximately $500K budget shortfall, every PTS teacher kept their job with SPS!
○ Evaluation - Connecting DDMs to teacher evaluation has been eliminated. Together, we can
thoughtful collaborate assessment best practices without the overtone of evaluation looming .
○ No on 2 - STA members participated in the state-wide campaign to defeat lifting the cap on the
number of charter schools. All our individual and collective efforts made us a success.
○ Professional Development Structures - Develop a shared vision for PD release time schedule and
format that optimizes collaboration time for all faculty members.
○ Solidarity and Membership Engagement - Continue to make our Union a vital part of SPS
decision making and responsive to the needs of members. 100% of Unit A and Unit B are committed
members of the STA!

with a public voice to promote and protect the ideals that are vital to helping students learn and
succeed!
