ABSTRACT/SYNOPSIS
General
Here, the idea of fashion is adopted and adapted to create buildings that
change their outlooks and facades without compromising function and
comfort.
In this context, the term fashion is defined from the changing of the
building façade and its organization of spaces. Therefore, with mechanical
aids like kinetic ambient reflection membrane and moveable window and
wall strips which are reasonably priced, the pavilion is injected with
something versatile yet far more interesting than the conventional
stagnant and rigid façade. You can change the façade as you like. The
changing of façade also allows users to determine the location of opening
according to the direction of sunlight and other weather elements.
Some parts of the pavilion can be shifted and changed manually by hands.
The users will be the ones determining the façade in that sense.
Why Pavilion?
Before submerging into the details, first of all, the term ‘pavilion’ needs to
be defined.
NOUN
1) a large and ornamental tent
2) a building, as at a park, used for shelter or entertainment
3) a temporary structure erected at fairs or public shows
4) an auditorium for sports or other forms of entertainment; also, an
amphitheater used especially for outdoor concerts
5) a structure forming a part of a large building
6) one of a group of buildings forming a campus or complex
7) the lower part of a brilliant-cut gem, slanting outward from culet to
girdle
In this case, item No.2 defines the pavilion that I want to do ; a building
that is used for shelter or entertainment. It is very common to see
students walking under the merciless sun radiation or even soaked by
heavy rain because there is no proper sheltered place for them to avoid
weather harshness. The pavilion does not have to be the usual hall-like
building that houses all sorts of things inside. It might be an elongated,
longitudinal pavilion that also looks like a sheltered linkage. Shapes of
norm like cubes and cuboids are boring. Therefore, irregular, organic
shape for the pavilion will be considered.
My Intention:
Hence, I would prefer to have a place with good design sense with
dynamic facades that passers-by can play with while enjoying nice
university views and spaces that are good enough to make me
stay inside the campus. A finely designed pavilion would be the
first step to creating a joyful yet creative environment.
Why One-Way?
The use of fashion into architecture is not limited to only women draping
themselves in fancy clothes but also to re-create the new façade and
spaces to old and existing buildings rather than demolishing them or
covering the ugly facades with gigantic signboards. Spaces are given a
new lease of life from the changing of the building façade and interior
spaces from the introduction to dynamic and versatile building.
ISSUES
3)Wakafs and huts do not serve as a proper place for communication and
interaction.
Objective 1 :
To create a proper yet pleasing linkages for mobility, interaction
and entertainment.
Objective 2:
To give versatility to a pavilion building to prolong its attraction
to university students.
1) The pavilion does not necessarily act as a mere place for sitting. It
is designed with the injection of local feel with the integration of
wakaf and pondok. For international feel, gazebos and platforms are

Objective 3:
To introduce a healthy entertainment to university students.
Objective 4:
To create a better landscape to the university area
1) The pavilion can be extended to the lake side for people to enjoy
lake scenery.
2) A floating pavilion can be built to create a scenic man-made
environment.
3) Alongside the pavilion, plants can grown in order to soften the
solidity of hardscape and pavilion.
Site Specific
Kampar , Perak.
At present, the commercial and industrial sectors are main driving forces
of Kampar's economy. More recently, its economy is further driven by the
construction of the new Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) campus.

Precedent studies
The structure of the facade also determined the ground plan; the greater
the number of window axes in a room, the more important the function of
the user. With the introduction of window strips, these hierarchies were
abandoned. Today it is possible that the complete exterior facade is
transparent, and this very transparency indicates a modern character. At
the same time, individual requirements escalate and need to be reconciled
with the desire for comfort.
