Call for Presenters
The Urban League of San Diego County Diversity Advisory Council invites proposal
submissions for workshops to be offered at the Second Annual Diversity Summit at the Naval
Training Center Promenade in San Diego, Ca. on September 10-12, 2008.

General Information
Founded in 1953, the Urban League of San Diego County is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, civil rights
and community-based movement that serves over 10,000 people, by providing direct services,
research and policy advocacy to help individuals and communities reach their fullest potential.
Primarily working with African-Americans and other emerging ethnic communities, our network
of professionals are working to close equality gaps for people at all economic levels and stages of
life, and giving citizens a chance to give back as volunteers.

Conference Theme
“Moving Beyond Talk to Action: Building a Diverse 21st Century
Organization”
Audience
Conference participants will come from education, business and government communities
throughout the Southwest Region.

Workshop Format
Concurrent sessions will be 90 minutes in length held on Thursday and Friday, September 11-
12. Please build in at least 15 minutes for Q & A.

Submission Instructions
Presenters are encouraged to submit proposals that address emerging trends, analysis and diverse
perspectives. Proposals should be submitted electronically and include the following information:

1. Cover page with proposed session title and presenter’s name(s).


2. Proposed audience for the workshop (business/industry, government, education and/or public
sector) and proposed workshop track (see page 4).
3. Submit a 75-word abstract describing the session.
4. Include a brief resume or biography of each presenter.
5. Provide name, title, organization, complete address, telephone number, fax and e-mail
address for each presenter.
6. High resolution photo (eps or jpg, minimum of 300 dpi) of each presenter for possible
inclusion in conference program.

Please type all sections of the proposal. If selected, the information provided may be used for pre-
conference and conference publicity. All submissions must be complete to be considered.

Proposal Submission Date
Proposals must be received by Monday, July 21, 2008, 5 p.m. PST. Proposals must be
submitted via email to: Angela McCourt, Program Committee member at
amccourt@qualcomm.com.

Each person who submits a proposal will be notified of their acceptance, or if their proposal has
been declined.

Selection Criteria
Proposals will be reviewed for selection based upon relevancy to the theme, being a best practice
in the field of diversity and inclusion, to the timeliness of the topic, creativity of approach, and
demonstration of expertise of the presenters.

TOPICS TO CONSIDER FOR EACH WORKSHOP TRACK: These topics are meant to
stimulate ideas for workshop presentations. Please do not limit your workshop proposal ideas to
only these topics.
