VITAMIN C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is required by at least 300 metabolic functions in the body,
including growth and tissue replacement, adrenal gland function and for healthy gums. It helps in
the production of anti-stress hormones and interferon, an immune system protein that is important,
and is also required for the metabolism of folic acid, tyrosine and phenylalanine. Studies show that
taking vitamin C can reduce the symptoms of asthma. It prevents the harmful effects of pollution,
helps prevent cancer, protect against infection and enhances immunity.
SOURCE OF VITAMIN C
Because our bodies cannot produce vitamin C, it must be obtained through diet or in supplement
form. It was unfortunate, most vitamin C obtained from food is lost in the urine. Vitamin C is
derived from berries, citrus fruits and green vegetables. Good sources include asparagus, avocado,
black currants, cabbage flowers, grapes, cabbage, lemon, mustard greens, onions, orange, papayas,
green peas, pineapple, spinach, strawberry and tomato.

VITAMIN C
Vitamin C ialah antioksidan yang diperlukan oleh sekurang-kurangnya 300 fungsi metabolic dalm
badan, termasuklah pertumbuhan dan penggantian tisu, fungsi kelenjar adrenal dan untuk gusi
yang sihat. Ia menolong dalam pengeluaran horman anti-stress dan interferon, sejenis protein
system imuniti yang penting dan diperlukan juga untuk metabolism folik asid, tairosin dan
phenylalanine. Kajian menunjukkan bahawa dengan mengambil vitamin C boleh mengurangkan
gejala penyakit asma. Ia mencegah daripada kesan merbahaya pencemaran, menolong mencegah
kanser, memelihara daripada jangkitan dan meningkatkan imuniti.
SUMBER VITAMIN C
Oleh kerana badan kita tidak boleh menghasilkan vitamin C, ia mestilah diperolehi melalui
makanan atau dalam bentuk tambahan. Agak malang, kebanyakkan vitamin C yang diperolehi
daripada makanan hilang dalam air kencing. Vitamin C diperolehi daripada buah beri, buah-
buahan sitrus dan sayuran hijau. Sumber yang baik termasuk asparagus, avocado, blackcurrants,
kobis bunga, anggur, kobis, lemon, mempelam, biji sawi hijau, bawang, oren, betik, kacang peas
hijau, nenas, bayam, strawberi dan tomato.

Peratusan vitamin C atau asid askorbik dalam buah-buahan boleh ditentukan dengan
menggunakan eksperimen makmal.
Tujuan eksperimen ini dijalankan adalah untuk menentukan peratusan asid askorbik (vitamin C)
dalam jus buah RA.
Anda dibekalkan dengan larutan 1% Diklorofenolindofenol (DCPIP), larutan asid askorbik 0.1%
dan jus buah RA.

Based on Diagram 1, plan and carry out the experiment to determine the percentage of vitamin C in
fruit juice RA.

iii) Make sure the needle of the syringe is placed into the DCPIP solution. Drop slowly the
0.1% ascorbic acid (syringe B1) into specimen tube containing DCPIP solution until the
DCPIP become decolourised.
v) Repeat steps (i) until step (iv) to get the average volume of 0.1% ascorbic asid used.
Ulangi langkah (i) hingga (iv) untuk mendapatkan purata isipadu larutan 0.1% asid
askorbik yang digunakan.
vi) The experiment is repeated from step (i) to step (v) , by replacing 0.1% ascorbic acid
with fruit juice RA, using syringe B2.
Ulangi langkah (i) hingga langkah (v) dengan menggantikan 0.1% asid askorbik dengan
jus buah RA, menggunakan picagari B2.
