SUBJECT: MAXIMIZATION OF PRODUCTION ON PORK & BEANS LINE
CC: GAK/MPM/ file

This is regarding present set up on Pork & beans line wherein the numbers of retort
baskets and liners took a large part on producing higher output.

Below are the quantities of liners and retort baskets available:

Retort baskets Liners (plastic/metal)
Canned products 9 + 6 (for pouches but can 63
be use for cans)
RET pouches products 6 24

As shown above, the available retort trays and liners for Pork & beans 100g are good for
one full load processing only and there will be no available trays and liners for
succeeding batches. On the other hand the available retorts for canned products are
sufficient but the metal liners are not enough (only 21 metal separators will be left after
full load processing). The insufficient numbers of liners and retort trays cause waiting
time for the following batches. Thus, cannot maximize the time and capacity of
personnel.
Below are the total quantity necessary for each product on one full load processing. It
also shows the total cycle time for each product which converted into waiting time
especially for Pork & beans 100g since there are no extra trays and liners to be use.

Total quantity of retort trays and liners required per full load of retort/ processing:
Total Cycle Time Retort trays Liners (plastic/metal)
Pork & beans 100g 90 mins 6 24
Pork & beans 165g 120 mins 6 42
Pork & beans 220g 160 mins 6 42
Pork & beans 390g 180 mins 6 42

Additional 6 unit retort trays and 24 pieces metal separator (for pouches) and 21 plastic
liners (for canned products) are recommended for purchasing.
Also, several trials will be conducted for processing schedule of the different products to
maximize the retort:
 Same processing schedule for Pork & beans 220g & 390g
o to ease the processing of both sizes during change in production
schedule and if encountered machine downtime
 Reduce processing temperature of Pork & beans 165g from 121C to 116C
o to avoid unnecessary retort malfunction because of high processing
temperatue
