Most people have forgotten the meaning behind traditional or

religious festivals; during festival periods, people nowadays only want

to enjoy themselves. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this
opinion?

Some would argue that the meaning of traditional and religious festivals has been left
behind and every festival became an occasion for having fun only. I believe that
festivals celebrations give us a great opportunity to enjoy ourselves but this does not
mean that we have forgotten the reasons behind these festivals.

There is no doubt that celebrating festivals was and continues to be a good chance for
enjoyment and relaxing. In my country, Al Feter feast is a good example of a religious
festival when people break their fasting after one month, making delicious deserts,
buying new clothes and meeting their friends and relatives. Likewise, mother’s day is
a non-religious festival and allow people to thank their mothers and give her gifts and
flowers. Therefore no one can deny the enjoyment and happiness that such festivals
bring to us.

Having said that, however, I think that considering traditional and religious festivals
as events for having fun does not necessarily mean their meaning has been forgotten.
For example, in al Adha feast most rich people donate some meat to the poorer ones
and pray in the mosque , doing what our Prophets did in the distant past. In addition,
we can not forget the origin of festivals because we have learnt about them very well
in the school through different subjects. Consequently, such information are kept in
our minds and can not be forgotten easily.

To conclude, although people mainly to enjoy themselves during festivals, I believe

that they are still aware of their underlying meanings.
