Enhancement of Academic Performance Through

Visual Auditory Kinesthetic Model in Grade 11

HUMSS Students of Senior High

School in Tuy, 2018-2019

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION:

Learning is a process that leads to change, which occurs as a result of experience and increases
the potential for improved performance and future learning. There are instances that some learners find
education as a difficult part of being a human. While others find it boring and a total nonsense. Because,
of the repeated methodologies and techniques of learning used by the teachers. Hence, there are
several leaning strategies that can be use by the teachers for the students to actively participate in class
discussion and activities.

On the other hand, teaching strategies has changed all over the years, teachers adopt
a lots of strategies based on the individual needs and abilities that may lead to the effective learning of
the students. Way back to the traditional teaching method or also known as Conventional Method (Chalk
talk Method) is widely used for today, wherein the students will relate the yesterday lesson and they
were expected to study and memorize the assignments, at the end of the lesson they will take a written
test or oral examination, this process is called "The Assignment Study Recitation Test".

For the past few years traditional teaching method is been change to modern teaching styles,
although, traditional ang modern was useful to make the students more productive. Modern teaching is
focus more on activity, using questioning, explaining, demonstration ang collaboration approach with the
help of technologies such as powerpoint presentation, ms word, excel and video presentation, it help the
students to easily cope up with the lessons, through modernization a psychologist in the 1920's
developed the visual auditory kinesthetic teaching method, the said method explains that we are most
prefer to learn in three (3) dominant ways: the first one is the visual which is visually dominant, learners
absorbs and get information when it is presented in example, pictures, diagrams and charts. The second
one is auditory wherein auditory dominant learners prefer to listen than to be presented. He/she wants
to responds through voice like oral recitation. While, kinesthetic are the learners prefer physical
experiences, he/she likes a hand on approach and responds well to being able to touch or feel an
objects.

Academic performance plays an important role in students success and to show the effective
learning of its as a learners. VAK defines the best way to learn a new information and to easily involve in
a class discussion. Different students also have different techniques on how they want to learn but
through the simplicity and usefulness of visual auditory kinesthetic model that include the three ways of
dominant style that will help and lead the students to their academic success.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

` This research aims to determine the enhancement of academic performance through visual
auditory kinesthetic Model in Grade 11 HUMSS Students of Senior High School in Tuy, 2018-2019.

This study seeks to answer the following questions:

1 .What is the level of implementation of VAK model in teaching in terms of

1.3 .Group Activity

2. How does VAK assess the students’ academic performance in terms of :

2.2 .Written Output

2.3 .Group Activity

3 .What are the problems encountered by the students in terms of their academic performance?

4. What activities may be propose to enhance students ’ academic performance?

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study aims to determine the level of implementation of Visual Auditory Kinesthetic Model
in the enhancement of student academic performance of Grade 11 HUMSS of Senior High School in Tuy,
this study also wants to know how VAK model affects the students ’ performance and the different
problems encountered by them as well as the activities that could be done to enhance the students’
academic performance. This study has a total of respondent from SHS in Tuy, SY:2018-2019. The study
used the descriptive design.

The study is delimit in other grade levels, strands and to other school. This study is confine to
the enhancement of academic performance through VAK model in Grade 11-HUMSS students of Senior
High School in Tuy.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study is crucial to the following:


Students: By means of this study, students will be able to easily cope up with their lessons that will make
change with their academic performance.

Teachers: through this study they will produce different teaching styles that will lead to the effective way
of learning of the students.

Future Researchers: This study can be their basis while starting a new study. They can also get some
information that can support their topic if their study is somewhat co-related to the others.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

 Visual - learners respond to images and graphics.

 Auditory - learners prefer verbal presentations.

 Kinesthetic -learners prefer a physical, hands-on approach.

 Academic Performance -is the extent to which a student, teacher or institution has achieved
their short or long-term educational goals.
