    Strength of material group assignment (10%) target group – 2nd yr summer WRIE

    1. What is the purpose of studding mechanical properties of material for WRIE engineers?
    (Explain it briefly by giving examples.)

    2. Describe briefly about stress and strain and their types with a neat and precise examples ?
    3. Draw stress and strain diagram of mild steel and discus it briefly ?

    4. If a steel bar of rectangular cross-section (2m by 1.5 m) is subjected for different loads as shown
    below (for case A, case B and case C), select the steel bar which is subjected for stress and strain and
    answer the questions accordingly.

    From the above alternatives:-

    A. Which steel bar is subjected for stress and strain?


    B. Explain the type of force which causes the stress and strain that you answer for question A?
    C. Based on your selection what type of stress and strain is developed in the steel bar?
