1. –어/아야
This grammar pattern is used to indicate that the state or action in the first clause is a necessary
precondition for what is described in the second clause. In other words, if the condition in the first
clause is not satisfied, the outcome in the second clause will not occur.

2. 얼마나 + ……..–은/는지
This grammar pattern expresses the unusual intensity or extent of some quality or
behavior. The second clause explains the result of this quality or behavior.
Generally, a declarative clause follows ‘얼마나+ --은/는 지’.
[ Verb] when ‘얼마나’ is used with a verb, it must be modified by an adverb that indicates the
intensity or extent of the action. However, this adverb is not necessary with verbs of emotion
such as ‘좋아하다’, ‘싫어하다’, ‘사랑하다’.
