Acknowledgement
I am grateful to Dr. Roselyne Okech for the reason she gave me such a great opportunity to work

on this research project of preparing a sales pitch for a client living in Amsterdam, Nethelands,

who is going to visit Goa in his coming vacations along with his family. I want to acknowledge
my sincere thanks and want to clarify that all the information written in this paper is true to my

knowledge. I have mentioned all the websites that I used to complete this project of mine in the

Reference list.
Goa

A spectacular view of Querim Beach located in North Goa.

Goa--- also known as the ‘Pearl of Orient’ is the land of silver sands and sparkling blue waters,

where the sky mirrors the sea below, white churches rests against green paddy fields and coconut

trees line across the coastal streets. It is irrefutably a place that will take just a single visit to fall

in love with. Tourists inevitably come to Goa only for its sandy beaches, but experienced

travellers say that the beaches are only a part of Goa’s attraction, there are lot of other activities

to do in Goa than sun, sand and sea. Goa has 500-year-old forts and temples, largest churches in

Asia, trekking routes, wildlife sanctuaries, waterfalls, trekking routes, and even spice plantations

that are worth visiting. Goa is also famous for outdoor activities such as scuba diving, sailing,

hiking, wildlife spotting. Tourism byline of this place of "Goa - 365 days on Holiday" is

apposite. So, this March get ready to be swept away by the spectacular sunrises and sunsets of

Goa and feel rejuvenated. (“Goa: Description”, n.d.; “Description of Goa”, n.d.).
A. Description of Goa
Goa is located on the south-west coast of India in the region known as the Konkan and is

bounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north, and by Karnataka to the east and south, while

the Arabian Sea forms Goa’s western coast. Panaji (Panjim) situated on the banks of Mandovi

River is the capital city and Vasco da Gama is the largest city. Ruled by the Portuguese till 1961,

Goa still retains its Indo-Portuguese character, which is conspicuous by its architecture as well as

its residents. Goa has a rich concentration of flora and fauna as it is located on the Western Ghats

(biodiversity hotspots). The state is divided into two districts: North Goa and South Goa. North

Goa is further divided into three subdivisions – Panaji, Mapusa, and Bicholim; and five taluks –

Ilhas de Goa (Tiswadi), Bardez (Mapusa), Pernem, Bicholim, and Sattari (Valpoi). Margão is the

headquarters of South Goa district. South Goa is further divided into five subdivisions – Ponda,

Mormugao , Margao, Quepem, and Dharbandora; and seven taluks – Ponda, Mormugao, Salcete,

Quepem, and Canacona , Sanguem, and Dharbandora. Panajim And Margao are the two

Municipal Corporations in Goa. Goa's seven major rivers are the Zuari, Mandovi,

Terekhol, Chapora, Galgibag, Kumbarjua canal, Talpona. The Sal The Zuari and the Mandovi

are the most important rivers, interspaced by the Kumbarjua canal, forming a major estuarine

complex. These rivers are fed by the Southwest monsoon rain and their basin covers 69% of the

state's geographical area. These rivers are some of the busiest in India. Goa is visited by large

numbers of international and domestic tourists each year for its white sand beaches, nightlife,

places of worship and world heritage architecture (“The North Goa”, n.d.).
B. Offerings by Goa that make it tourists’ paradise

1.) Beaches:

“Goa boasts some of the best beaches in Asia with white sand, coconut groves and the sparkling

blue Arabian sea stretching along the entirety of the state’s coastline”. There are 36 beaches in

total in Goa, so it is impossible that you will not find the one that will not suit your particular

needs. The beaches in north and south are unspoilt while the central regions are crowded.

Agonda and Palolem are some of the best in the south, while Ashwem and Mandremare the least

crowded in the north (“Why every traveller”, n.d.).

2. Water activities:

Goa is no less than a paradise when it comes to water sports activities. Be it water skiing, para-

sailing, banana boat rides, scuba diving and water scooter rides…all are enough to give you a
feel of freedom from your hectic life. The thrilling experience you will have from the water

sports will remain etched in your memories for rest of your life (“15 Reasons”, n.d.).

3. Abundant breathtaking views:

Travel around Goa on a bike (very commonly available on rent for around 2 quids a day, and

you’ll realize how much more there is to Goa than just beaches. Lazy rivers, swaying coconut

palms, majestic waterfalls and cliffs add to the natural scenic beauty of Goa. But that’s not all!

Long lanes wind through miles of jungles or countryside, and little bridges rest on planks of

wood and iron beneath which run train tracks. Tucked away in a corner of a long road is a local

bar, waiting to refresh you with its homely charm. Just as your drive under the sun on a country

road gets a tad too warm, you suddenly realize that trees towering over the road have magically

hidden you from the sun with cool breeze swaying your hair (“Ten reasons to visit Goa”, n.d.).
4. Romantic Walks and Candle Light Dinners:

Couples usually look out for quiet and astounding places to spend some quality time together, so

in that case romantic walks along beachside do wonders. There is nothing more romantic than

the long beach walks and after that a surprising candle light dinner life (“15 Reasons”, n.d.).

5. Party Place:

The open-air night clubs are the most popular hubs for party lovers in Goa. All the party animals

can be found at one place without any doubt that is Tito’s Café Mambo. It is known as one of the

most famous sites for an entertaining night. This club has also been awarded as “Best Nightclub

in Goa”. Most importantly, there are several other cabarets where one can enjoy the wonderful

night life culture of Goa to the fullest life (“15 Reasons”, n.d.).
The Se Cathedral at old Goa, an example of Portuguese architecture and one of the largest

churches in Asia.

6. The architecture:

In Goa there is a unique mix of Hindu temples and Roman Catholic churches. Worshippers of

these two major religions exist peacefully with one another, intermarry and even attend to one

another’s congregations. Combined with the impressive religious architecture, the Portuguese

and Indian architectural influences add an extra layer of intrigue (“Why every traveller”, n.d.).

7. Sun bath and Sunset Watching:

Goa is full of beaches where one can have the benefit of availing sunbaths. Beautiful sun set

view is an ultimate treat to your eyes especially when you are with someone special. The glory of

that sunset guarantees to sooth your soul and mind (“15 Reasons”, n.d.).
8. Relishing Sea Food:

Goan cuisine is a mix of local flavours and Portuguese influences, where most dishes are

seafood, coconut and rice-based. Fishermen bring in boats loaded with the day’s catch and the

seafood restaurants cook the local catches fresh off the boat. Order a whole kingfish or a dosa

from one of the many beach shacks that line the beaches while you watch the sun set over the

Arabian sea. The Goan food is all about royal sea flavors that too with local culinary secrets. The

cuisine of Goa is perfect to uplift your mood in a second. The food over here will pamper your

taste buds and will make you ask for more options to choose from. Lot of dishes including Goan

Fish Curry, Prawn Balchao, Fish Recheado etc., are offered here along with a variety of drinks

(“15 Reasons”, n.d.).

9. Super Economical:

This is the best part that makes every tourist fall in love with Goa and summer over and over

again! Everything is darn cheap during the summers. From flight tickets to hotel bookings, from

sightseeing tours to delicious food – you get amazing discounts on everything. “A penny saved is

a penny earned. I say – a penny saved, is a penny to be used on partying!” You can enjoy the

drinks, the beaches and the sightseeing – and all at a drastically low price. Moreover Tourists
from the western world love goa because of the jaw-dropping exchange rate they get for their

currencies in India. Need more reasons to go there? (“5 Killer reasons”, n.d.).

10. Shopping Extravaganza:

The shopping experience in Goa is just super awesome! The markets are lined with amazing

goods at amazingly low prices. You can get yourself all those things and amazing swimsuits

you were dying to buy teamed up with some beautiful accessories at a dirt-cheap price. The

haggling is almost non-existent and there is no rush during the evenings.? (“5 Killer reasons”,

n.d.).
C. Transportation and Cost Related with it:

Dabolim Airport

1. Nearest landing Airport:

Goa International Airport (IATA: GOI, ICAO: VOGO), also known as the Dabolim airport, is

the only airport in the state of Goa, located in the city of Dabolim in Goa, India. It operates as a

civil enclave in a military airbase called INS Hansa. It is 4 km away from the nearest city Vasco

da Gama, 23 km away from Margao, and about 30 km away from the state capital Panjim

(“Airport authority”, n.d.).

2. Cost of Air Travel:

The air fare for a round trip (economy) from Amsterdam to Goa for 2 Adults and 2 children in

total ranges between € 2200 to € 2500.

3. Means of Transportation in Goa (Getting Around):

There are many options for tourists to get around in Goa. Public transport largely consists of

privately operated buses linking the major towns to rural areas. Hired forms of transport include

unmetered taxis and, in urban areas, auto-rickshaws. A popular mode of transportation in Goa is

the motorcycle taxi, operated by drivers who are locally called ‘pilots’. These vehicles transport

a single pillion rider, at fares that are usually negotiated. Other than buses, ‘pilots’ tend to be the

cheapest mode of transport. You can also rent out a motorcycle and explore the many contrasts

that Goa has to offer around every twist and turn. River crossings in Goa are serviced by flat-

bottomed ferry boats. Crammed with people and vehicles, they go about their task in an

unhurried manner. They are extremely reasonable and run from dawn till late in the evening.

Tourist can book taxi or vehicles run by Govt. of Goa itself i.e. GTDC which ensures tourists a

hassle-free transport (“Getting Around”, n.d.).

Following are the various types of transportation options to choose from:

I.) Hire geared or non-geared bike ‘per day’ basis:

1. Save on the exuberant travelling costs with this service.

2. It is easily available near all the main parts of the towns in Goa, even in villages.

3. The price range is Rs. 200 to Rs. 350 per day depending on the kind of bike.

4. There are geared bikes as well ranging from Rs. 400 to Rs. 1000 per day (“Getting

Around”, n.d.).

II.) Use the Pilot service (Motorcycle rickshaws):

1. You can also avail the affordable motorcycle rickshaws called Pilots.

2. The motorcycle rickshaw can only accommodate one person at a time.

3. Can be used for long or short distances, charges are about Rs. 15 to Rs. 20 (1 km or little

more).

4. The govt. has allotted the price of Rs 5 for the first kilometer and Rs 2.50 thereafter

(“Getting Around”, n.d.).

III.) Use the local bus service:

1. Local private buses in Goa have a wide network even in the remotest areas.

2. It is a cheaper mode of transport than others, they charge about Rs. 10 for 2 to 3

kilometers.

3. There are bus stops everywhere & the names of the places they will stop at is written in

the front side of the bus.

4. There is also a state transport service called Kadamba Transport Corporation. These

buses do not stop at all stops but only main cities, for example Mapusa to Panaji and

Panaji to Margao (“Getting Around”, n.d.).

IV.) Auto rickshaws or Cabs:

1. The least cost-effective way to travel is by private taxis or auto rickshaws – no meter

system and you can be charged more.

2. The fixed price allotted by the govt. for rickshaws of Rs. 7 per km and cabs of Rs 8 per

km is most often not followed.

3. You can avail the pre-paid taxi service from the airport that follows a standard amount

based on number of kilometers.

4. Also available at some railway stations (“Getting Around”, n.d.).

V.) Women Taxi services:

1. “Brand New” Toyota Etios “A/C” Car.

2. Travel Hostess trained as “Tourist Guide”.

3. "GPS Monitored” for Safety & Convenience.

4. Govt. Approved “Fare Rates”.

5. “Metered” Taxi Services with printed bill. (“Getting Around”, n.d.).

VI.) Ferry:

1. A very convenient & cost-effective way to travel in Goa but not available everywhere.

2. Only a few locations in Goa have the ferry service.

3. Betim to Panaji, Old Goa to Divar Island, Querim to Tiracol & Cavelossim to Assolna.

4. The most romantic and enjoyable mode of transport in Goa.

5. It’s free for pedestrians and two wheelers and minimal charges are applicable to cars

(“Getting Around”, n.d.).

wild parties there, but water sports and dolphin sightseeing trips are on offer. It does get a little

crowded around peak time in December but head a bit further south down the beach and the

quietness will be restored. Restaurants line the main stretch of beach but most of the

accommodations are set back from the beach, along with art galleries and shops. It attracts a lot

of foreign retirees. Cost of visit: Rs 450 per person on average but mostly depend on what you

prefer to eat (“Which Beach” 2010, January 10.).

legacy and trace the growth of the naval aviation, and hence this museum, which is one of its

kind in Asia. The museum was inaugurated on 12th Oct 1998 by Admiral RH Tahiliani (Retd.) -

The First Naval Pilot to land a fighter aircraft, 'Hawker Sea Hawk' on the deck of aircraft carrier

F. Money and other fun facts:

1. Extra money required for gifts, souvenirs and entertainment:

Almost every visitor wishes he/she could stay back forever, but the best one can do is to take a

slice of Goa back with you in the form of souvenirs. Goa becomes even more attractive when

tourists find how economical the shops are. As most of the small items range from €3 to €6 and

the larger ones going maximum up to €50, money ranging from €500 to €600 is more than

enough for buying the attractive gifts and souvenirs. When it comes to entertainment no place is

on par with Goa. Most of clubs and pubs charge only €10 to € 20 for a single visit.

2. Goa’s weather in March:

Goa experiences its winter season in the mid month of December and March. Usually in the

night, the temperature goes down to 21°C (68°F) and in the day it rises up to 28°C (84°F). The

nights are considered as cool as compare to day. This is probably the best season to visit Goa

(“Best time”, n.d.).

28°C max day temperature

 9

9 hours of sunshine per day

 0

 23

3. Necessary items to bring with you:

I.) Sunscreen:

Sunscreen is a no-brainer for something that’s called ‘Sunburn’. Get a good spray-on sunscreen -

one that does not make you sweat, since you’re going to be quite hot and sweaty from all that

partying (“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).

II.) Mirrored Sunglasses:

The sand reflects a lot more sunlight and beaches tend to hurt the eye a lot more. To protect your

eyes from the sun’s harsh rays, pack two pairs of sunglasses, preferably with a mirrored finish.

They are also make for great cover-ups for sleepy or hungover eyes (“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).

III.) Tent:

Sunburn has introduced camping on the venue for backpackers and others who do not get

accommodation, or for those who simply want to camp for the love of it. Remember, if you do

plan to camp, look up a list of camping items to pack in addition to this list (“Ultimate checklist”,

n.d.).

IV.) First Aid Box:

There is going to be a lot of pushing and shoving around at Sunburn and it wont hurt to carry a

first aid box to take care of emergencies. Pack in some basic medicines for headaches, colds,

tummy runs and the like. If you are a hardcore party animal, it might be a good idea to have

some OTC anti-hangover pills on you (“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).

IV.) Insect Repellent:

Mosquitoes are everywhere in India and Goa is no exception. Since you are going to be mostly

outdoors after sunset, carry an insect repellent to be safe (“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).

VI.) Ear Plugs:

Whether you’re staying at a hotel or camping, earplugs can help you sleep well. After all, you

can’t blame ‘Sunburners’ to want to party all night! (“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).

VII.) Water Bottles:

Although there will be plenty of drinking water available at the venue, you will be better off

carrying your own little bottle since queues at water points can be pretty long at times. Moreover,

you will save up on buying bottled water anywhere you go.

VIII.) Comfortable Footwear:

There is going to be a lot of toe stepping and dancing so carry a pair of comfortable footwear like

the ones from ‘Crocs’ that cover your toes and are waterproof as well.

IX.) Wet Wipes and Hand Sanitizer:

We can’t stress on how important it is to carry wet wipes and a hand sanitizer to the beach. The

weather in Goa is balmy throughout the day and a quick wipe down can make you feel clean and

refreshed in no time (“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).

X.) Money Belt:

It’s a good idea to keep your credit cards, extra cash, IDs etc on person and money belts are a

great way to keep them hidden and safe. Buy a comfortable belt and make sure it does not irritate

your skin. This is even more essential if you decide to camp (“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).

XI. Selfie Stick:

You’re going to be making a lot of friends at Sunburn, and your hand held selfies are not going

to do justice to capturing those crazy moments. A selfie stick however, will be a great addition to

your Sunburn investment (“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).

XIV. Power-bank:

If you’re going to be taking countless pictures and videos at Sunburn, which you most probably

will, carry a portable power bank to charge your devices. Because running back to your hotel

room to charge your phone and camera will be such a waste of time! (“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).

XV. Dry Shampoo:

Sporting a messy or a bed head style is cool but you don’t want to have dry, sticky or smelly

hair. Dry shampoo is a miracle in such situations, if you haven’t tried it yet, go get one today

(“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).

XVI.) Foundation:

You’re going to be tired after all that partying and your skin is going to be too. Carry your

favourite foundation and concealer to hide dark circles and spots and be party ready from

morning till night. If heavier foundations are not your thing, try good BB or CC creams which

are lighter and more sheer (“Ultimate checklist”, n.d.).
