In many ways, Princess Beatrice of York, the older daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, is
the current House of Windsor’s ultimate mis t. Unlike her little sister and most of her rst
cousins, she appears to be the only one among her generation of recently grown up British
royals whose neither settled into a career, or at least found a niche for herself in public life. Of
course, those readers of this blog in the know realize that a career of taxpayer funded public
service isn’t an option, at least for now, for Her Royal Highness, given her uncle, the Prince of
Wales’s, recent decision, which has received the blessing of the Queen, that both the current
and future structure of the working Royal Family will exclude the York princesses. It’s long been
rumored that their father was infuriated by this decision, and according to a recent Daily Mail
article, his o cial website not only goes out of its way to emphasize Beatrice’s royal status, but
also that she’s an independent, professional, career woman who, by implication, wouldn’t be a
burden on her grandmother’s subjects if she were to become a working royal. This same
article, published 10 April and entitled, HRH Holiday Addict: How ‘full- time businesswoman’
Beatrice, 26, had ELEVAN money-no-object holidays in under six months, goes over in detail
why this argument is, to put it mildly, a hard sell. Her inability to commit herself to longterm 
employment, unfortunately, is rumored to be only one of several problems currently troubling
the seventh in line to the British throne.

While it can’t be stated de nitively that Prince Andrew and his ex-wife were bad parents, their
various marital and personal problems were bound to negatively a ect their two daughters in
some manner while they were growing up. Certainly, Fergie made no secret to either Beatrice
or Eugenie when they were little girls, and she was still married to their father, that there were
other men in her life. When on vacation with her lovers, Fergie often took her daughters along
with her. The infamous early ’90’s photos of a topless then Duchess of York getting her toes
sucked by her lover, John Bryan, by the poolside of a Thailand resort while her daughters
frolicked in the pool nearby told their own story. After their divorce in 1995, however, Andrew
nonetheless entrusted the greater responsibility for their upbringing to their mother. While
Sarah, Duchess of York certainly supervised their education a ectively, with Beatrice not only
overcoming an early diagnosis of dyslexia, but both her and Eugenie having been generally
considered bright, successful students that both graduated with honors from their respective
universities, it’s long been rumored that Fergie also attempted to instill within both her
daughters, with the enabling encouragement of her ex-husband, a sense of royal entitlement
and a belief that the world should roll out the red carpet for them simply because of their
status at birth. While Princess Eugenie appears to have been intelligent and mature enough
not to take this belief seriously, the same cannot be stated for her older sister.

Her half assed professional endeavors since graduating from college in 2011 speak for
themselves. After having gone nearly a year without a proper job, but dabbling in a minuscule
amount of charitable work, Princess Beatrice nally landed an entry level position within a City
of London, that is a London based nancial, rm. Perhaps owing to her learning disability, Her
Royal Highness de nitely didn’t take to the rudiments of the nancial markets, and left the rm
the next year. She then spent another year being comfortably unemployed until landing a gig
as a paid intern with Sony. As of January this year, she’s resigned from that position, and has
been unemployed ever since. It’s rumored that she’s recently been hired by a New York based
nancial services rm, and will shortly take up residence there with her longterm, American
born boyfriend, Dave Clark, whose recently been hired for an executive position by the gypsy
taxi app rm, Über. Her Royal Highness is no stranger to the Big Apple; her little sister’s been
steadily employed there at an art gallery for the past couple of years. Before Beatrice resumes
work, however, she might rst want to get her vacation schedule under control.

As the afore mentioned Daily Mail article makes clear, Princess Beatrice is exceedingly fond of
taking frequent expensive holidays, presumably nanced by the largesse of her parents and
wealthy friends. Within a 6 month period, from November of last year to this recent April,
Beatrice racked up an impressive amount of frequent yer miles jaunting between ski trips in
Switzerland and Colorado to yachting excursions along the Caribbean and Mediterranean to
escorting her father on a semi-o cial trip to the UAE that just so happened to coincide with
their annual Grand Prix. She also stopped over in NYC to celebrate her sister’s bday. None of
this would matter if, A: it didn’t bring back not so fond memories of her mother notoriously 
accepting as many freebies, including vacations, that she possibly could while still married to
her father, and B: if the Duke of York wasn’t trying so hard to lobby behind the scenes for his

daughters to be given tax payer nanced, working roles within the Royal Family! Perhaps if
Princess Beatrice were involved in a relationship with a steady, professionally upright young
man with only the best intentions toward her, such behavior could be curtailed, if not
dispensed with. According to rumor, unfortunately, the opposite appears to be the case.

Almost 8 years ago, Prince William introduced his cousin to a young Anglo-American from a
wealthy, socially connected family named Dave Clark. They hit it o , and have been an item
ever since. As implied in a recent Mail on Sunday article entitled, Would Wills Have Vetoed
Bea’s Beau? Prince is ‘not a fan’ of Dave Clark-but she no longer needs royal approval after
falling down line of succession, the Duke of Cambridge is rumored to have regretted that
introduction ever since. The article states that Mr. Clark was not only cordially not invited to
the Cambridge wedding, at the insistence of His Royal Highness, but that Prince William,
according to an unnamed source, nds Dave ‘indiscreet’ and believes he’s exploiting Beatrice
for as much publicity and career advancement as he can get out of her. There’s at least some
substance to this accusation.

Until recently, Dave was an Astronaut Relations executive with Virgin Galactic, Richard
Branson’s tourist space exploration o shoot of his Virgin Atlantic airline. It’s widely presumed
that it was he who talked his royal girlfriend into reserving a much publicized seat on a future
space exploration ight. Beatrice, however, changed her mind last November when a Virgin
Galactic pilot on a test space ight in the Mojave Desert was killed. Dave, nonetheless,
immediately granted an interview to the Daily Mail touting the safety standards of his company
and boasting that Leonardo DiCaprio had just reserved a seat for the eventual space shuttle
voyage. This level of exploitation, especially of a member of the Royal Family, appears to not be
to Prince William’s liking. It’s long been whispered that he’s far more socially conservative
behind closed doors than most realize, and between his parents, takes more after his at times
reactionary father. He more than likely also isn’t thrilled at the rumor that Dave secretly
proposed to Beatrice over New Year’s, she’s accepted, and they’re now privately planning to
move to New York to start their married life together. Unfortunately for ‘Wills’ the recent birth
of his daughter means that Princess Beatrice is too far down the line of succession to
constitutionally require the Queen’s permission to marry, and she can plight her troth with
whomever she pleases. Besides, Her Majesty is notoriously permissive when it comes to her
descendants’ choices of a spouse. The only in-law she ever genuinely vetted was the late
Diana, Princess of Wales, and clearly she didn’t do a very good job of that! Andrew and Fergie,
for their part, are rumored to be very fond of Dave Clark, though one can’t help but question
how high their standards are given the company they’ve kept in the past, let alone their
choosing of each other for marriage!

The last problem vexing Princess Beatrice of York is the long standing rumor that she, like her
mother, su ers from a longterm eating disorder. The near constant uctuations in her dress

size are testimony to that. Once again, her mother, whose tacky shallowness, pathological
insecurity and super cial values are issues that she’s admitted to in her memoir, My Story and

http://www.royalfoibles.com/the-trouble-with-princess-beatrice/ 4/21
21/10/2018 The Trouble With Princess Beatrice – Royal Foibles

has repeatedly, oh so publicly, and still unsuccessfully sought treatment for, seems to have
negatively in uenced this aspect of her daughter’s personality. Beatrice isn’t exactly a
traditional beauty, her huge eyes look as if they belong on a Japanese anime character, and
she is a naturally big boned, large framed young woman who appears more than a little
awkward in public, especially when contrasted to her conventionally elegant, rail thin cousin-in-
law, the Duchess of Cambridge. It’s also long been rumored that the Duchess hasn’t helped
the situation by delighting in making fun of Beatrice behind closed doors. The author can’t
con rm if the rumor concerning Her Royal Highness’ body dysmorphia is true, but if it is, it
certainly goes a long way in explaining why Beatrice just can’t seem to get her s**t together.

When contemplating the alleged travails of Princess Beatrice, one can’t help but compare her
to her little sister, Princess Eugenie. The author and Her Royal Highness reside in the same
city, travel in similar social circles, and have a handful of social friends in common. They’ve all
reported the same synopsis of her character back to the author, that she’s an intelligent,
professional, ordinary young woman whose comfortable with who she is, and doesn’t desire a
higher public pro le than what she has. In essence, she’s the polar opposite of her parents
and older sister. Perhaps it’s best that Princess Beatrice move to New York and stay as close to
her more mature, more well adjusted sibling as possible. Hopefully Eugenie can show her
through personal example that life is better when one doesn’t try so hard to reach for a brass
ring that’s clearly unattainable. Such striving certainly hasn’t made either of their parents
happier people!

Fascinating! I used to adore Sarah – not so much anymore (for a LONG time now)
but I’m VERY pleased to hear that at least Eugenie is doing well. I feel Beatrice,
having seen how much drama her parents created, it is not surprising – although
rather sad – that she’s been negatively a ected. Nevertheless I enjoyed receiving
this insight into Princess Beatrice. I wish her well. Qhat eating disorder does she

Rumor has it that she’s compulsive, meaning that she oscillates between 
anorexia, bulimia and over eating. Just like her mother, whose erratic
behavior during the latter part of her marriage is rumored to have resulted

The thing is, Beatrice isn’t fat. She’s got a 1950’s bombshell gure,
which I realize isn’t fashionable now in this age of Emaciation Is Chic,
but that is hardly Bea’s fault. Her body’s great now. I don’t understand
why she doesn’t see a dentist to sort out her problems. She has
gorgeous hair and could be a beauty with a little tweaking.

The only tweaking that would help Beatrice is a paper bag. She’s
unfortunate looking. Eugenie is no great beauty herself, but is
easier on the eyes than her sister.

Hello Hello!! So happy to wake up to a Foible :). Another cosmetic problem with
poor Bea: her dental arch is too big for her face. Cosmetic dentistry could diminish

Bea, I would have requested permission from the DoE to adopt another set of royal
parents. I am sure he would have agreed.

I am devastated to read about Dave Clark, I genuinely thought Bea lucked out. He
seemed to be a nice/well adjusted lad, giving her enough love and a reason to
resolve her gure issues. I also thought the traditional American money marrying
British aristocracy trait ended last century! As it seems that, indeed, the apple
doesn’t fall far from the tree, I hope Bea is not marrying a character close to her
bizarre father. Many kudos to HRH The Prince of Wales for axing the royal suckers,
albeit The Princess Royal is excluded from said category.

Once again RF, your post has made my day! I’m clearly addicted to your blog!
I wonder how Beatrice & Eugenie have reacted to their actresses counterparts on
the campy E! Show, “The Royals”! It’s a God awful show, but for me, a guilty
pleasure! Also I wonder if Elizabeth Hurley has given up all hope of one day
becoming a “Dame”!
Good thing Joan Collins got hers before she signed on!
Finally, I’m sure Andrew must not appreciate his character either (if he even knows
about it ).

Believe it or not, I haven’t actually seen the show yet. I watched part of one
episode, and found it too cheesy to continue. I, myself, am curious
concerning the Yorks’ reaction to their ctional doppelgängers. Eugenie and
her father could probably care less, whereas Fergie and Bea probably watch

the show faithfully and cry themselves to sleep after every episode.
Personally, I’d rather watch the odd episode of “Downton Abbey” and

“The Royals” is indeed god awful boring, as well as unfunny and mean-spirited. It’s
rather sad to see what’s become of Elizabeth Hurley’s career. She’s kept up her
looks reasonably well, but that’s it for her.

As for Dave Clark, other than give an interview mentioning that Leo DiCaprio is
booked on a space ight I fail to see what is so horrible and “indiscreet” about him.
At least HE’S never publically humiliated his gir friend, which is a hell of a lot more
than we can say for William isn’t it? What am I missing here?

And if it’s true that lazy, anorexic looking Waity Katie is making fun of Beatrice
behind her back it says more about HER than it does about Beatrice. Kate seems
such a mollusk that I am starting to suspect that if William ordered her to bark like
a dog on the Balcony at the next Trooping of the Color she’d do it in a heartbeat.
No mind of her own, ever!

Which is not to say that Beatrice doesn’t need to get o her ass and get her act
together. Despite their other issues, I’ve always thought that Andrew and Fergie did
an admirable job as parents, unlike the Charles and Diana they pretty much kept
things normal for the girls. But I’ve always had the feeling that it was Beatrice who
absorbed the brunt of Sarah’s narcissism. I have heard that she locked herself away
in Royal Lodge for weeks in tears when Fergie’s “Pay for Play” scandal broke and
she was also seen bursting into tears on the mercifully brief reality TV show
“Finding Sarah”. In short, as clueless and direction-less as she seems, I feel kind of
bad for her.

What a mess. If only narcissists couldn’t breed.

The “Daily Mail” article is deliberately vague when it comes to what Prince
William means exactly by calling Dave indiscreet. While that word can have
several meanings when mentioned in a British tabloid, it typically refers to a
man being unfaithful to his partner, and not covering his tracks particularly
well, at least insofar as his and his girlfriend’s social circle are concerned. I
mentioned the Virgin Galactic story only because it was the most concrete
example I could nd of Bea’s beau being indiscreet, at least in terms of his
obvious exploitation of his royal girlfriend.

The Prince of Wales has made it no secret that when he nally takes charge of the
royal purse strings he’s going to cut a lot of “dead wood” from the family tree,
starting with the Yorks. Mommy’s boy Prince Andrew, and by extension his parasite
wife (and yes, they are still e ectively married) will be left high and dry. That’s why 
he spends so much time on Middle Eastern golf courses cultivating a variety of

cashed up, shady friends who will enable his lavish lifestyle in exchange for a
tenuous royal connection.

Both York girls are also staring into the nancial abyss and while Princess Eugenie
seems to “get it” and is forging a career for herself that will provide an income and
independence, her not terribly bright big sister Beatrice seems altogether too
dazzled by her HRH and the lofty status she believes it bestows upon her. She’s
very much her father’s daughter in that regard. He is still sulking that he probably
won’t be able to score a full, state funded, grand royal wedding for his daughters
when the time comes and which he fully believes they are entitled to. He might be
able to twist his doting mother’s arm but big brother Charles won’t be so
accommodating.

I must say I haven’t particularly noticed any major uctuations in Bea’s physical
appearance (unlike her mother) but I don’t see how she could have emerged from
her parents bizarre marital arrangements without some psychological issues.
Anyway, the York Sideshow will be of minor interest when the Cambridge

should be plenty of rich pickings for our RF correspondent to divulge. Maybe start
with the Battle Of The Grandmas…

I’m tempted to write about the rumors I’m hearing and reading concerning
Carole Middleton and her running of Anmer Hall. William purportedly adores
her as the mother he never had. There appears to be three in the
Cambridge marriage, though unlike the ill fated Wales union, the other
woman is the wife’s overly sycophantic mother providing the maternal care
for the husband that even his own mother couldn’t provide. It’s kind of
creepy in its own way.

Indeed. Carole controls the lives of her children, son in law and now
grandchildren with an iron grip and it’s not appreciated by the royal
family and their snobby courtiers. As the mother in law and
grandmother of two future kings she feels she deserves at least some
kind of title, a Lady would do but ideally a Countess, to re ect her
lifelong and ercely fought social climb to quasi “royal” status.
Meanwhile, William gives a good impression of a man who just wants
to live a simple, albeit very privileged, life in the bosom of his in-laws
family without the inconvenience of any royal commitments or
responsibilities. Ditto his wife. Basically he doesn’t want the job. Harry,
on the other hand, is showing that he has his mother’s charismatic gift
for empathy and communication and embraces his royal duties with
enthusiasm and commitment. Now if only he could nd a nice girl to

I can see both sides of the thing. On one hand, we are just not used to
seeing such in uence of in-laws in the royal family and it does seem
over-the-top given all the hired help Kate clearly has. On the other
hand, I know that having 2 children under 2 would be a handful,
especially with a new infant, and I think it most likely Kate does not
have a cook at Anmer Hall so at least that’s where Carol comes in. I
think it comes down to Kate being overly tied to mamma’s apron

I suspect the ambitions and snobbish preoccupation with rank and lineage which
are characteristic of Andy and Sarah have been loaded on to Beatrice who is
unlikely to displease her parents. But – the notion that Eugenie is somehow more
with it seems optimistic – her recent Snow White appearance at her Disney themed
Birthday Party suggests a serious level of immaturity and that she hired 7 dwarves
to accompany her is appalling – very poor judgment there. Eugenie acts as if
people of less stature are somehow “accessories” not real persons.

Eugenie is said to be returning to London for a new job but also – the NY real
estate publications are claiming that records reveal the Queen has bought an
apartment at 50 UN Plaza – could this be Beatrice’s wedding present?

The alleged feud between the Mid girls and the York girls is said to have occurred
because Kate did not let Beatrice know she should have worn a costume to the
skating party and subsequently made fun of her which reduced her to tears –
rather thin skinned if such a thing would make her cry.

Beatrice as well as William have teeth which are too big for their jaws and needed
major orthodontic work – it is amazing they did not get it. Will had braces but
clearly not the right sort. Beatrice often looks as if she cannot completely close her

The York girls have had a di cult time dealing with the unpleasant things regarding
their parents, let those sittting comfortably in the shade have feelings for those out
in the sun , be thankful their own good luck and be sympathethetic to those who
are less favoured.

I knew about Andrew and Edward’s parentage. I think regardless of the

Queen’s provisions in her will for Andrew (even Edward), Charles will likely
undo all that and revert any holdings bequeathed back to the Crown. That’s
why Andrew bought that pricey chalet der Schweiz. The Yorks won’t have
much left in the U.K. and the 2 girls are even now unable to penetrate
aristocratic circles, including nding partners even with commoners.

I always thought it strange the the York girls were never invited to be ower girls or
bridesmaids at family members weddings, only for members of sta , which I think
speaks volumes. When you think of all the minor totals who married and didn’t turn
to be a and genie.

These two hapless dimwits really cannot nd a place for themselves. Too dumb to
work, too unpopular and awkward within the Royal Family; there’s seemingly no
taste for them amongst the aristocracy and, I believe, they try to tack themselves
onto cheesey low rate celebs. …….All of this, I suspect, is due in no small part to
their overly entitled, distasteful parents who should have taught their daughters
how to become ladies before they could hope to be Princesses.
