Group Project (total marks 30%)

Public Goods
Identify a specific public good based on any one of the following categories of public goods found in
Malaysia or other countries:

a) Pure public goods;


b) Price excludable public goods;
c) Congestible public goods

Discuss the characteristics of each particular public goods that you have choosen in (a) to (c).

A. Instructions:
1. Provide a brief introduction to the particular public good of your choice including the following
information:
i. Statistics of related volume or expenditure of the selected public goods
ii. Who produce/provide the public good (Why they are responsible to provide the public
good)
iii. Distribution mechanism of the public good (why the particular method is suitable to
distribute the public goods?)
iv. Method of financing the public goods (why the method is suitable to provide optimal
amount of public goods?)
2. Apply the concept of marginal cost to explain the provision or production of the particular public
good or services. Apply a graph to help you in explaining your discussion of marginal cost
associated to public goods.
3. Discuss how an efficient provision or supply of a pure public good can be achieved? Apply
relevant theories or concept to assist you in your explanation.
4. Discuss issues faced by the relevant parties that supply or provide the particular public goods
and what are the measures used to address these issues?
5. Conclusion: provide you brief conclusion to the topic discussed above.

B. Format
1. Report (20 marks)
Font: Arial, 12, 1.5 spacing.

Suitable cover page for a project.

2. Poster (10 marks)


Prepare an A4 size poster to illustrate your report. Remember to include only important or relevant
items in your poster. The poster should be easy to read, suitable combination of colours are used.
The most important is the poster has to be catchy, brief and concise yet informative to portray the
whole idea of your project.
Due date: 29 November 2018, by 11 am
Submit the hardcopy of your report and poster to my office or my
pigeonhole at level 3, next to the lift.
Soft copies of report and poster have to be submitted via e-leap link that will
be created later.
Page limit for the report: 15-20 pages (including references). Do cite the
resources that you refer to in preparing your report.
