Standard 5

Impact on Student Learning

Element 5.a: Select or create authentic, formal assessments that measure

student attainment of short- and long-term objectives.

Artifact: PED 454 Statistics and Assessment in P.E. Final Project

Date: Fall 2017

Reflection:

The final project in Statistics and Assessment in P.E. that I created with
a partner provided me with the opportunity to assess student’s abilities to
underhand roll and mark their progress over time. This showed me how
student learning can be impacted with thorough instruction and strategic
observation methods.

The project consisted of authentic and formal assessments. These

assessments consisted of a pre assessment (before), formative
assessment (during), and post assessment (after) to observe and record
data which resulted in a fluctuation of student learning curves after the
lesson was concluded. This artifact relates to element 5.a because the
impact of student learning in all 3 domains (cognitive, affective, and
psychomotor) after our unit of underhand rolling was taught was
definitely present in the results we received. The authenticity of the
assessments helped yield reliable results. This can be seen in the graphs
in the artifact itself when reviewing “Part 4: Analysis of Results.”

This artifact is very important to my development as a teacher because it

provides me with the information that the assessment guidelines that I
used are reliable and can be used in other units that I will teach in the
future. I will use the same methods to assess students in future physical
education units.
