(a) Find its Laurent series expansion near 0 on {0 < |z| < 1}.
(b) Find its Laurent series expansion near 0 on {|z| > 1}.
Solution)
(a) For 0 < |z| < 1, we have

for any closed contour C in D. Does f necessarily analytic on D? Justify your answer.
Solution) Indeed, f is analytic (This theorem is called Morera’s Theorem). Theorem in Section 48 states that the above
condition on contour integrals is equivalent to f having an antiderivative F on D i.e., f = F 0 . The Cauchy’s integral
formula for higher derivatives indicates that derivative of an analytic function is also analytic. Thus f is analytic, since F
is analytic and F 0 = f .
