Title: Old McDonald Had a Farm activity

IELG Outcome: IELG D1 G16 Age 16 to 38 Months CI6: Makes animal noises and looks to caregiver for recognition.

The skills this activity promotes: Participating in a group activity and expressive language as the children name animals, make
animal noises, and respond to questions.

Activity Description: The children will have the opportunity to participate in a group activity as they hold their animals, name
the animals in the farm, and make animal sounds.

Adaptations for individual toddlers: Make sure there is a teacher with Mia during large group and a teacher with the other
toddlers that decided not to come over to large group.

Teacher Script

Introduction Script (What will you say and do to get their attention and introduce the activity?): Alright, boys and girls now we
are going to sing a song about a farm and the different animals that live on it. And there is a …… (list the animals that live on the
farm and the sounds that they each make then put them back in the Barn (bucket) and pull them out one at a time as you sing
about each one.)

Expectations for children (What will you say and do to show the children how to participate in the activity?): I will model and
explain the activity for the children first so that they can see what they need to do. I will show them each of the animals that are
on the farm and that will be in the song and the sound effects for each animal. Then I will invite them to join in and sing along
and as they sing along they can hold up their animals that they are holding when we sing about them.

Handing out props (how will you hand out props): Each teacher will have the cards with pictures of animals on them with them.
So, when it’s time the teachers will hand out these cards to the children.

During the activity (What are you saying and doing during the activity for the children to model?): During the activity, I will be
singing the song and picking out the different animals from the farm (bucket) to sing about.

The lyrics are:

Old McDonald had a farm E-I-E-I-O
And on that farm, he had a ______ E-I-E-I-O
With a ____ her and a _____ there
Here a _____ there a _______
Everywhere a __________
Old McDonald had a farm
E-I-E-I-O
(The blanks change every verse for the different animals and the sounds they make)

Closing Script (What will you say and do to end the activity and transition to the next thing?): Alright boys and girls now it is
time for the animals to go back to the farm. Bring your animals to the barn so they can take… a nap or get ready for lunch. “Now
we are going to listen to what Ms. ______has planned for us!” OR “Now we are going to go back to play for ten more minutes.”

Collecting props (how will you collect the props?): The children will return their props to the barn (bucket).
