CODE OF DISCIPLINE

I. DEFINITION OF TERMS

The following words and phrases, as used in this Code, shall have the following
meaning or otherwise denoted in the text.

ABANDONMENT OF WORK. Means unauthorized and unexcused absence from work


exceeding five (5) consecutive working days.

ABSENCE WITHOUT OFFICIAL LEAVE (AWOL). Means unauthorized and unexcused


absence from work for a single day. The employee’s Unit/Office Head shall decide,
whether or not to excuse an unauthorized absence from work.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. Mean any pure or rectified spirits of wine or intoxicating


elements in fermented liquors including beer and any other similar beverages that are
capable of producing intoxication.

AUTHORIZED PERSONS. Those who by virtue of their positions must know of


confidential matters like the Administrators of the School.

SCHOOL. Means St. Scholastica’s College, Manila.

SCHOOL PREMISES. Mean buildings, legitimate place of work and all other properties
owned and/or rented by the School. They also cover the working areas occupied by
employees assigned in each work station.

DEADLY WEAPONS. Include grenades, rifles, muskets, carbines, shotguns, revolvers,


pistols and all other deadly weapons from which a bullet, ball, shot, shell, or other
missile may be discharged by means of gunpowder or other explosives; and any
bladed, pointed or blunt weapon such as knife, spear, dagger, bolo, balisong and all
other similar instruments used to inflict harm/injury to another person.

EMERGENCY CASES. Mean unforeseen circumstances such as fire, typhoon,


earthquake, sickness, death or any accident involving either the employee personally
or the immediate member of his family which shall include the legitimate spouse, the
children, and natural parents.

EMPLOYEE. Means any person, including regular, probationary, temporary, casual or


project employee, under the employ of the School.

HABITUAL ABSENCES. are absences in excess of the allowable leave credits which are
incurred three or more days in a month within a quarter; also includes absences which
show a pattern of Monday or Friday sickness of the employee over several months
within a school year.

PORNOGRAPHIC LITERATURE. Means any obscene film, drawing, cutout, writing,


picture and other similar materials (this also includes e-mail and text messages)

PROFANE LANGUAGE. Means words, phrases, or signs uttered or done with malice,
irreverence or contempt.

TARDINESS. Means arriving at work on regular working day later than the official
time.

II. SANCTIONS AND CORRECTIVE MEASURES

Note that:
1. In spite of a first offense, one can still earn 100% of the merit pay.

2. In spite of a second offense, one can still earn 75% of merit pay.

B. ABSENCES

List of Offenses and Corrective Measures on Absenteeism

1. Failure to inform the office head of unforeseen absences during


the prescribed time.

First to Third Offense – dialogue; excused absence chargeable


against VL

Fourth Offense – Verbal Warning; unexcused absence-salary


deduction

Fifth Offense – Written Warning; unexcused absence-salary


deduction

Sixth Offense – Suspension of 1 day; unexcused absence-salary

Seventh Offense – Suspension of 3 days; unexcused absence-salary

Subsequent Offenses – Suspension of 5 days per occurrence;

2. Failure to file Leave Forms

First Offense – HR Director writes to the Office Head informing


him/her of the absence not covered by a leave form and requesting
that the employee submit a letter of explanation to the HRD through
the Office Head regarding the infraction committed. The Office
Head recommends that the absence be excused or unexcused
depending on the explanation of the employee.

Second Offense – Verbal Warning; unexcused absence-salary


deduction

Third Offense – Written Warning; unexcused absence-salary


deduction

Fourth Offense – Suspension of 1 day; unexcused absence-salary


deduction

Fifth Offense – Suspension of 3 days; unexcused absence-salary

4. False reports of sickness/false reasons for an absence

First Offense – Suspension of 5 days


Second Offense – Suspension of 10 days

In all instances, the absence shall be converted to unexcused


absence subject to salary deduction.

5. Habitual/Excessive absenteeism

First Year – Suspension of 5 days


Second Year – Suspension of 10 days
Third Year – Dismissal

(NOTE: Analysis of Attendance Record is on a yearly basis)
