2. Identify major cities, regions, and geographical features in

Spanish-speaking countries and the reasons they are significant in
the cultures of those countries.
Activity The students will identify Spanish-speaking countries in both Central
America and South America. In order to do this, the teacher will
bring up the map activity on the SMART Board. The teacher will
identify the countries in Central America located in slide 3 so that
the students can be familiar with the placement of these countries.
On slide 4, the students will match the country’s name with a
country on the map on the SMART Board. Next, the teacher will
identify the countries of South America in the 6th slide. After the
students are familiar with the placement of the countries, the
students will touch and drag the countries’ names to countries on
the map in slide 7. When the student touches and grabs the
country’s name to its position on the map, it allows for them to
place it in a space and move it if they place it in the wrong place.
These activities allow the students to familiarize themselves with

Spanish-speaking countries. This also allows the teacher to later

elaborate on the history of these countries and their contributions
to Spanish-speaking countries’ culture and history in a later lesson.
