Final Student Evaluation: Data Analysis

I found most of students' responses to the anonymous survey extremely encouraging and
constructive and plan to administer a similar one in my future classes. I administered the
survey to all of my classes. For several statements, the majority of my students strongly
agreed, and I noticed that students who selected 5 for the first few statements were more
likely to select 5 for all statements. I was pleased to see that 91.3% of all students strongly
agreed that I know and understand the subject being taught and the remaining 8.7%
agreed with the statement (4/5). The statements that I had least amount of students who
strongly agreed were "Ms. Hill keeps the class on-task so that we can learn" with 50% 5s,
37% 4s, 10.9% 3s, and 2.2% 2s; and "Ms. Hill relates lessons to other subjects or the real
world." with 63% 5s, 21.7% 4s, and 15.2% 3s.
Students seem to perceive that I have strong pedagogical knowledge, with 78.3% reporting
that they strongly agree and the remaining 21.8% reporting that they agree that I use
different materials and activities to help them learn. They also seem to perceive me as a
caring and effective teacher, with 97.8% reporting that they strongly agree that I treat
everyone fairly and 93.5% reporting that I allow and respect different opinions. I was
happy to see that 89.1% strongly agree and the remaining 10.9% agree that I am a good
teacher.
Overall, I need to improve my classroom management, namely keeping students on task
and preventing them from disrupting their peers' learning. I could also improve relating
content to students' everyday lives. I also need to reconsider my late work policy. I allow a
lot of freedom surrounding deadlines and, throughout my student teaching, did not take
credit off from small assignments. I required them to write me a paragraph about why they
turned in a major assignment late and what they'll do differently next time to manage their
time better. I found that this policy made it really difficult for me to keep track of late work
and resulted in really low rates of students turning things in on time. Due dates just became
a suggestion and some students noted that students took advantage of the system. Overall,
this was a really helpful process and I plan to continue implementing surveys as I progress
in my career.
