ALS-2 Overview

ALS 2.2
ALS 2.2 is a series of design modifications that allow networked ALS-2
computers to exchange data seamlessly with linked systems.

ALS 2.2 was designed mainly so that the ALS computers can send and
receive WITS (Wellsite Information Transfer Standard) data through the
TCP/IP (network) connection; this enables greater flexibility for data
transfer to/from outside the system, especially when transmission to a
secure Web Server is required.

 ‘Fast pulse’: Hook/Heave position (1/10 second)
 ‘Slow’ Pulse: Pump Strokes, RPM (1 second)

DE1.2.2_ALS_OVERVIEW.PPT 22 July 2004

ALS-2 Overview

What is a Monolog?

A monolog is an electronic device allowing up to 8 signals coming

from different origins to be acquired onto one bus. Through the ALS
software, the various monolog channels to be assigned to the different
sensors in any order.
A monolog Bus is able to transport up to fifty (50) signals, one after the
other within one second (1 point). Thus we can connect up to 6
monologs in serial to gather 48 different signals on the same bus, to
send them to the DAP.
ALS data acquisition equipment provides three internal monolog
boards in the Signal Conditioning Panel (SCP) and allows up to three
optional external Monolog boards.

ALS-2 Overview

Design Features of ALS 2.2

• The WITS server is a new version of RTG which is now called RTG_NT.
• RTG_NT is designed to run WITS Launcher, WITS Editor, Time backup and RTG
WITS configuration backup, and to handle 16- and 32-bit graphics.
• The software of RTM and SVX (Server) have been modified to be compatible with
RTG-NT. The Server now uses Novell Netware (V 3.2) with a Pervasive SQL 2000
engine.
• The TDX station (V 3.1) now runs under Windows 2000 (NT) and is called
TDX_NT, with additional application packages added.

ALS-2 Overview

Advantages of using the Windows 2000 (NT)

environment:

 Use of TCP/IP protocol for data exchange

 Use of any type of computer
 Fewer driver compatibility problems
 Use of most commercial software currently available for
Windows platforms.
