HISPANIC AND LATINO AMERICAN LESSON PLAN

OBJECTIVES:
Our objectives are to describe and explain the cultural, gender,
socioeconomic, familial, and language characteristics of Hispanic and
Latino students. The class will learn the difference between the terms
“Hispanic” and “Latino” and pass an assessment with 90% accuracy.

MATERIALS/ EQUIPMENT:
The lesson will use a PowerPoint presentation as well as the white
board. A YouTube video will be presented to the class as well as a clip
from the Netflix special John Leguizamo: Latin History for Morons.
Finally, a quiz will be given on Kahoot, where students will need their
cell phones to participate.

INSTRUCTION:
 Begin with an overview of the lesson
 Explain “machismo” and what it means in Latino culture
 Discuss family values in Latino culture
 Discuss gender and teaching methods when working with Latino
students
 Examine the socioeconomic status of Latinos in the United States
today
 Discuss religion in Latino culture
 Watch a clip from John Leguizamo: Latin History for Morons and
have class discussion.
 Explain the difference between the terms “Latino” and “Hispanic”
CLOSURE:
The lesson will conclude with a short review and a period for questions
and any further discussion. Finally, a quiz will be administered via
Kahoot to assess learning.
