Goals of the Course:


The objectives of this course are to provide students a basic concept on legal system with
its historical evaluation. It will also provide background knowledge & an overview on the
legal framework of this country. The course also designs to provide knowledge on the
major legal systems of the globe as well as the loopholes in existing system.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course, it is expected that the student will be able to:

1. Understand and implement the legal system of this soil;
2. Appreciate the fundamentals of the legal system of Bangladesh.

Methods of Instruction:

Methods of instruction may include, but are not limited to:

1. Lectures and usual aids;


2. Discussion and problem solving performed in class;
3. Quiz and examination review performed in class;
4. Optional materials given by the Course Instructor;
5. Guest speaker(s) (if possible) etc.

discuss their difficulties with the concern Mentor.]

Lecture 01: Introductory discussion and an overview on Legal system of BD;


Lecture 02: Historical Background: The origin and development of various legal system
of the world & their interrelationship;
Lecture 03: Basic definitions, Major classification of law, features of BD legal system;
Lecture 04: Historical developments of courts, common law & English legal system &
its influence in our system;
Lecture 05: Structure and functions of Apex of Bangladesh;
Lecture 06: Structure and functions of lower judiciary in Bangladesh;
Lecture 07: Structure and functions of special courts & tribunals in BD;
Lecture 08: Class Test-01
Lecture 09: Civil proceedings;

Lecture 10: Criminal proceedings;
Lecture 11: Appeal, Review & Revision;
Lecture 12: Nature & categories of various kinds of legislation in BD;
Lecture 13: Judicial precedent;
Lecture 14: Legal profession;
Lecture 15: Bail and power of arrest of police;
Lecture 16: QUIZ-02
Lecture 17: Law officers and officers of the court;
Lecture 18: Practice: Find obiter dicta & ratio decidendi from judgments;
Lecture 19: Art of writing and question answering;
Lecture 20: Ending discussion relating to this course.

Evaluation Process (marks):
1. Class performance+Participation: 05
2. Presentation+Class attendance: 05
3. Class Test (2): 10 (Best one will be counted)
4. Mid-term Exam: 30
5. Semester Final Exam: 50
