CHAPTER 1

STUDY OF VOLUME AND SPEED

1.1. OBJECTIVES
The practicum is undertaken with the following objectives:
a. To determine traffic volumes along the given road location and the
vehicle’s classification;
b. To find out how much the people and passenger who are come in and out
from one city/region;
c. To find out the peak hour for each type of vehicles;
d. To find out the schemes and tendency of traffic direction;To measure the
vehicle's speed that pass through the given road location.

1.2. BASIC THEORY

We live in a complex and rapidly developing world. Consequently, most
problems affect traffic engineers. They have to involved in evolve rapidly. One of the
most biggest issues in every territory of the world is transportation. As a traffic
engineers, they use engineering methods and techniques to achieve the safe and time
efficient movement of people and goods on roadways. The safe and time efficient
movement of the people and goods is dependent on traffic flow, which is directly
connected to the traffic characteristics.
Traffic surveys are generally required to transportation engineers for planning
and designing traffic facilities, diagnosing given situations and finding appropriate
solutions. The basic aim of traffic surveys is to collect data that accurately reflects the
real world traffic situation in the area. It may be collecting traffic volume information
includes the vehicle’s speed that pass through the area.

1.3. TOOLS
The tools that we use in this Study of Volume and Speed are:
a. Measuring Tape;
b. Stopwatch;.
c. Counter;
d. Stationary;
e. Clipboard.
