staircase leading to the bell chamber. Happily visitors are allowed to climb the
tower in small groups, which provides not only a close look at the iconic tower but
a fine view of the Piazza del Duomo (city square of milan). Walls border the
staircase, but the steps themselves are slick and uneven. The tower has no elevator
access, and anyone with mobility issues or serious health conditions shouldn't
make the climb. Children under 8 aren't allowed.
