Parameter File – Special Meshing Options

The special component selection option is used to handle three types of situations:
1. Components that must be exclude from geometry cleanup should be listed, the Batchmesher will still mesh those
components but will not perform any geometry cleanup before meshing.
2. Names of the components that should be meshed while maintaining the connectivity to external meshes have to be
listed, the Batchmesher will mesh those components but will not touch any external mesh. The connectivity to the
external mesh will be realized.
3. The option ignore selected components while maintaining connectivity to meshed components is the opposite of the
second option. Even here the connectivity to the external mesh will be realized. All listed components will not be
meshed.

Tips- Criteria File

1. When defining TEL, use minimal height or normalised height

2. Min and Max element size has the maximum impact on the mesh output

3. Min size recommended is 33% of TEL (Can go upto 40-50%).

Max size should be around 175% of TEL

4. Warpage of 15 degree and lower may be strict and may move elements out of geometry

5. % of Tria is taken as default in batchmesher, so changing this value may not affect output much

Tips- Parameter File (For BIW / Sheet Metal Parts)

1.

For Sheet Metal/BIW, use Skin Offset for Midsurface extraction

2.

Elements across flange and minimum width of the flange are dependent on the min. length.

3. For Hole and Fillet recognition make a detailed table with ranges defined

4. Do not use Auto for # elems around hole. It is better to specify the number you require.

5. Keeping auto for washers is recommended

6. Using “exact” maintains mentioned values

Tips- Parameter File (For BIW / Sheet Metal Parts)

7. Values in “Red” means the values given are conflicting, you need to clear these conflicts for better results. Values in “Blue” are
warnings.

8. For number of elements around holes use the below formula

S= element size; R = Radius; N = Number of elements around hole

9. Recognise main fillet strips and preserve main edges will have minimal effect when Recognise and preserve major feature edges is
enabled

10.

For Sheet Metal/BIW, don’t activate the above options

Tips- Parameter File (For BIW / Sheet Metal Parts)

11.

Activate the above options

12. Supress flanged holes/ Supress Beads – recommended is 20% of TEL

13. For Edge fillet – Value should be between min. element length and TEL

14. For Surface fillet recognition, the Midline split is not recommended the edge formed will not considered as major
feature and may not be preserved
15. For moving nodes across shared edges 10% of TEL is recommended, and across free edges 5% is recommended
