Biochemical Oxygen Demand Determination: BOD Test
Biochemical Oxygen Demand Determination: BOD Test
BOD Test
The BOD Test is among the most important method in sanitary analysis to determine the polluting power,
or strength of sewage, industrial wastes or polluted water.
It serves as the amount of clean diluting water required for the successful disposal of sewage by dilution.
The sample is filled with in an airtight bottle and incubated at a specific temperature for 5 days (can be 2,
10 or even 20 days). The Dissolved Oxygen (DO) content of the sample is determined before and after
5 days of incubation at 20OC and the BOD is calculated from the difference between initial and final DO.
