Students to go to allocated classrooms to meet with groups. Teachers and students to be given information on room
allocations via email and Sentral. All groups are in classrooms. Teachers to open PowerPoint on T Drive (also on
Sentral).
Program (numbers below correspond to slide numbers on PowerPoint)
1) Teachers to facilitate students meeting their groups in classrooms and setting up a comfortable environment
to sit for discussions to take place (5 minutes)
2) Students to reintroduce themselves to their groups, students can briefly discuss what they got up to during
the holidays as an ice breaker activity. (5 minutes)
3) Teacher to play Video 1 (Asha Philip) for all groups to watch. (5 minutes)
4) Groups to discuss the following questions (10 minutes)
a. A support network is a group of people who provide emotional and practical help to someone in
difficulty.
i. Who was part of Asha’s network?
ii. Who do we have in our own support networks and why?
iii. Share a time when we have relied on our support network to get through a challenging time.
5) Teacher to play Video 2 (Black Dog Institute) for all groups to watch. (5 minutes)
6) Groups to discuss the following question (5 minutes)
a. Each student to share one personal experience where they have experienced stress, and what
strategies they used to deal with and overcome that stress.
7) What is Resilience? (10 minutes)
a. Students to individually share what they believe the definition of resilience is and why they think it is
important during adolescence.
8) Students to read the definition of resilience displayed on the screen ‐ Resilience is the ability of an
individual, family, or community to manage change to maintain mental wellbeing. (10 minutes)
a. Students to individually share ideas on how the following groups can support the develop of
resilience in the students of Girraween High School
i. Individuals
ii. Classes
iii. Year groups
iv. The whole school
